A little over a month ago I purchased a Phillips 315 watt set up Ballast, wiring & Phillips bulb for under 400 bucks. Mainly to replace my 1000 HPS I soon then decided I needed to get two of them to replace it..... Long story short I have them mounted Horizontal but to but in an inexpensive open hood about 12 inches above plants... I love how cool they run & I got another for the Veg room.... any feed back to this Newer type appreciated....

Hi i70, I think i remember you posting something about this setup in another thread, there are less than a handful of people using these Phillips 315W Elite Agro CMH bulbs here, and most have just started using them. I think we're all figuring them out as we go so it's difficult to provide a lot of insight.

One question I have is the bulb you got, from what I've read the Elite Agro 315W 930 bulbs are much more efficient when running them vertical, either bare or in a vertical hood/reflector. Depending on the bulb, some are tagged as universal, meaning you CAN run them horizontally, but they're much less efficient in that config imo, with the limited knowledge I have of them.

Also, this will require a 220/240v circuit/connection unless you have a converter to let it run @120. I think you mentioned in that other post that you do have 220, right?

Cheers

220vt mode..Phillips ballast & bulb Master Color Elite 4K CDM Medium Wattage..... universal operating position. I am Buds with my local grow shop & sat in on all the testing with 4 different types of light meters and after days of testing every light the 315 blew most away only HPS 1000 was close but did not have the larger spectrum range... the vert vs. horz loss was pretty minimal.... I will mount vert someday.....

After looking at the bulb the loss must come from the protective housing for explosions purposes.....two layers & none on the end where the outer bulb is thicker.. just my guess.....

Yeah, they're pretty awesome power for the draw, my son has 600 and 1000, I'd say it definitely will outdo the 600, 1000's a bit of a stretch imo but for the power consumption they're hard to beat. Good luck with your grow, you going to post it here?

I used 2 - 315's to replace the 1000 hps....& all lights are on rails.... we will see in a month or so..... I will be posting from time to time.....

Yeah 2 of those will match or beat the 1000's, nice setup.

In our studies, using three 315's will replace a 1kW hps with a potential yield increase. Have achieved over 1.2 gpw. Downside is the cost of three lights instead of one.

I am going to try and run my two for a while to see results & go from there..... I will keep info posting...

Hi Snaps, I believe you have commercial clients, take it that 1.2 gpw would be running commercial/high yield strains? Just trying to gage a rough target in my next run with a full footprint. I'd guess 1 gpw should be relatively easy with any decent producing strain under these things.

We've noted shortened flowering times as well.

Strain as always has an effect on yields and flowering times. 1.2 gpw was done on a strain that consistently performed at 0.9 - 1.0 gpw range with hps in the same environment / setup.

May perform more testing on new versions in the future, depending on manufacturer requirements.

Well that's encouraging, thanks for the info. From the first run and referencing my son's hps setup, I was thinking about a 20% increase in yield over hps which sounds to be around what you've seen. Even if you don't consider the power savings, between a yield increase and shorter flowering (roughly 10%) these provide a pretty good ROI story imo. Bulbs cost more and you'd need more, but they also (supposedly) last much longer, should be a wash there if they last as long as they're rated (of course I'd replace them sooner than the stated life but that's also the same for hps). Besides that, less heat to deal with, not seeing much of a downside here. Just harvested my first JTR under these and the buds are rock-hard which compared to running them under those Chinese LED's, there's absolutely no comparison against those LG's. I'm guesstimating this should translate to around 70-90g's vs. 22 g's of fluff with the LG LED's, for JTR which is not a big producer I'd be pleased with those numbers with a relatively small 24" plant.
