Anyone paying attention to Leaf?

Hey guys,

Anyone take a look at Leaf Growing systems lately?

http://www.getleaf.co/

They were mentioned on a vice documentary and got their funding. All in-in-one units, 2x2 box that automates everything. I remember the pitch saying that the units with retail for around 1300-1600USD which all things considered, it pretty attractive for a medical patient.

Lighting is from BIOS LED Lighting which looks like ay new venture themselves. Has some good backing and smart people on board. Sure it won't be as cheap using DIY, but they are providing decent PPF/w (see, I can use PPF too) at 1.85/w.

Looks fairly slick.

clever im sure they make 70% of their profit on nutes and filters
Well subscriptions and Everything-as-a-Service is the new business model so they might be willing to take a hit on the capital costs per unit.

I'll see if I can get more info.

I don't think most of us would even consider something like this but I can see some out there wanting a real clean and sanitized setup like this regardless of cost. Judging by their model they seem to be shooting for the government or benefits assisted crowd. I can see it taking off in a few years if they start getting pricing down.

Especially in your neck of the woods with legalization expected next year.

It looks like the sign up is only for USA and Canada though.

They could even market it to researchers.

How quick before there is a modded version? :)

I personally love it, I wouldn't buy one, but I love it anyway. I could imagine the look on my Dad's face if he asked me for a beer and I told him to help himself...................pmsl

I'd rather buy a grow tent.
But this system is automated. There's not much to do when you know what you're doing anyway.

Pays for its self in 2 grows? Is what the site claims. It claims 4oz a grow 200 an Oz at least worth $1600 idk you can probably set something up for that much and get 4lbs a harvest.

This is for people with no time and to much money imo
I do not like corporate grows and MonSatan. They will try to automate everything and buy politicians to put small growers out. I hope they all get Russet mites. I know up in Humboldt they use pesticides and lie about it. Corporate grows use pesticides because they hire stoners, felons and meth heads $9 an hour to run a big grow. Some sucker getting paid slave wages to manage hundreds of plants.

Sad.

I think it is an interesting concept however for the cost of it the thing only grows 1 plant just 1 WTF are they thinking

No. These small scale, Kickstater automated hydroponic systems on the market are all absurdly overpriced for what you get. Not to mention: they don't have a finished product yet! You're throwing a deposit down and they haven't even come up with the product

Napkin math: Assuming it took you 3 months to harvest you'd have maybe 3-4 ounces @ $150/oz, after you deduct your costs (per their site: $40 nutes, $30/mo electricity, in a 3 month cycle you've made about ~$50-80 worth of weed per grow. I think you'd need around 60 grows to pay this thing off, or ~15 years. Wonder if the app still works when iOS 20 comes out

1.Most likely a locked down OS communicates only through their app, so roll the dice and hope their app is good and supported! What happens in 5 years when iOS 20 comes out, the app needs an update, and the developer of this thing has moved onto something else? Now your 'smart' grow box is completely stupid. I'm not saying this WILL happen, but if it does - when these types of smart projects get abandoned it's absolutely catastrophic to the end user, and I hold absolutely zero faith in these Kickstarter style projects to:
a. deliver on their promises
b. maintain their products for longer than a year.
2. It only takes their proprietary liquid nutrients in a fucking cardboard box. This may be "hackable" but you shouldn't have to hack a $3,000 piece of equipment to take non-bullshit nutrients. They say those smalls boxes will last you 3 months however I would love to test that claim.
3. As with all of these systems, the lighting was seemingly a complete afterthought. Doesn't look like enough at all. Why do these premade boxes never introduce side lighting!? They really should have researched small growing in a Spacebucket before making this expensive heap of shit. For $3,000 I shouldn't have to glue some samsung hard strips to the side of this thing.

If you knew how many samples here fail for eagle 20 alone you would never smoke another untested bud.

That is just one systemic on a very long list of horrible shit people spray on their plants.

Huge bummer.
