What a great read. So many of these stories are disappearing as we lose the last veterans of WW2 and even Korea. My dad's 90 and fought in Korea but he's the last one out of all his veteran friends still going.

3 tours in SF is a small club, I'm sure they had close contacts and mutual friends. Doesn't take long to shake some names at any legion bar, usually.

He's a rare bird. West Point to Vietnam and came home ready to join the Rangers and go airborne. Went back for 2 more tours training the Montagnards out in the jungle and fighting with them. He was on the Golden Knights parachute team at Bragg for a bunch of years and retired as a Lt. Colonel. I cannot imagine the stuff those guys went through, real deal snake eaters.

Okay, that part really rings a bell. I know i heard the spooks and a green beret from Lousiana talking about him. They all worked together, if he trained Montagnards. More than once, they chatted about him at the spook reunion picnic too. That was his reward, Golden Knights, when they asked what he wanted, is my recollection. He could of gone to Europe, Japan, DC, but he wanted to jump.

From what I remember he didn't want Japan because he lived in Kyoto after the war with my mom and grandfather. Granddad was a full bird Colonel and JAG officer.
I saw him jump with the Knights at Bragg in the 70s and it was the most miserable day of the summer. The jump zone looked like a mirage from the heat coming off the ground. He's not doing very well right now, fighting cancer. If anyone can get through it I'd say he can so I'm hopeful it works out. Sorry about the thread hijack and I'll post a few pics of the swords later if I remember. They're from Japan and one from Korea that my dad brought back.

I have three of those. My BIL bought me one. I lost it, so I bought myself one to replace it. He heard I had lost it, so he bought me another. Then I found the lost one. lol

My everyday carry is a CRKT neck knife though. (everything on my person has to be worth it's weight)

Cousin Johnny was an Air Force snake eater. He's one of those guys who can do anything. He's pushing 75, and still the one I call when I need help.

My everyday pocket knife I remember my grandfather gutting deer with this in the 60s MOP grip the makers mark is worn off the blades are like razers

Sure thing, the one in my every day carry bag is the Fenix PD35. I also have a few from a company called Streamlight that are excellent. They're buried in my bug out bag. The Fenix reaches 300 meters and uses the little CR batteries which are expensive but the amount of light is blinding. It also has a strobe button to stun somebody by basically blinding them. It works, I've blinded myself frequently checking it

I have a Fenix tactical, one setting does strobe/high, other setting does hi/med/low/SOS.
The 2 Olights are great, much lighter and compact if you are counting grams. They have a moonglow setting also, as well as hi/med/lo.
Right angle one has a diffused lens, knurled surface, super for hiking and camp chores, other one has a tight beam.
All these use single CR123 batt, same as my water purifier
