Any way to sex a plant before flowering?

I was wondering if there was anyway I could get the sex of a plant before I swap to 12/12 as I was planning on having a pretty long veg growth stage and I would hate to waste all that time on some herms or males...any info or feedback would be greatly appreciated...:peace:

Take a clone off of the plant. Veg it for about 1-2 weeks and then put it into flower to show the sex. That way you can keep the big plant in veg until the clone shows sex. Then just pull the little clone out and throw it away. Then you will know what the sex is of the main plant.

I also read that you can cover one branch for 12 hours a day to force that branch into flower-- haven't yet had an opportunity to try it... Seems like a bit of a hassle.
That micro sexing thing is cool though!

the branch method is good, sometimes shows within a few days rather than waiting for clones to propagate.

I use an old mylar/foil balloon though, paper bags and bin liners are semi transparent.

blow the ballon up to make it open up, get a small branch or about 6" of a branch and put it in the balloon and tie the opening shut, it is a pain but if you have an alarm and do it 11light/13dark (gives you an hour if you forget or are late) it should show, in personal experience, within 10 days)

Oh yeah I think I had heard about putting one branch in the dark to sex em...think that would be safe for the growth of the plant and all, wouldn't like somehow flower the whole thing or kill it..? Thanks for the feedback also ppl...

Right well just an inquiry...I'm gonna try it when my babies get a little bit bigger...wish I could post pics but moneys real tight and got no digital camera. Thanks a lot everybody for the input...

never ever killed a plant using the branch method to check its sex, its even in the growfaq.

I had a couple do that on my last grow around day 30 or so (before the hot day we had 2 weeks ago made my grow cupboard get above 43c, 80%h and killed them whilst I was kept at work) .

I would never ever do this. I take a couple of clones off each plant I want to sex and then after a couple of weeks I seperate them and put them on a 12/12 light cycle.

iam getting a strong skunky smell in my grow room.my plants are only at 6 weeks.

Most plants can be sex after 4weeks from seed, but there are alway exceptions....you should always check your seedlings for little hairs...there the first thing you will see, note these plant in your journal...usualy the first to show will be the first to finish...more so for outside than inside...
