Any UK LED Guys here?

Hey guys, growmau5 on youtube sent me here, i'm seriously considering my own DIY COB system and wondered if theres any UK guys on the forums who may be able to give me advice on UK suppliers of the parts to do so.

I'm hoping to get a 6 COB LED system made, once im sure on parts and prices, for a 1m^2 tent.

If anyone has some good set ups that they would like to share, that would be great!

So far i'm looking on alibaba and i'm thinking of:
HLG-240H-C1050B x1
Φ180mm*H70mm(for 95-105W) cylindrical heatsinks x6
Original CREE CXB3590 led, LED glass lens and Ideal 50-2303CR led holder is available x 6

from the same seller on alibaba, and then the sundries like wiring and such i will probably source locally.

If i'm missing anything or you'd like to give me some advice on your builds, things you'd do differently, or things to not do, please do so!

Im currently running a mars hydro light (blergh) so i'm thinking this route is the logical next best step?

Thanks for your input guys, i'm going to continue to trawl through the masses of information on the forum now. Wish me luck!

I bought all my drivers from TME. They've been the cheapest I could find in Europe for HLG-600H-36A and HLG-320H-36A units when I was searching but they have a shipping charge so things get cheaper per unit if you order multiple.

http://www.tme.eu/gb/details/hlg-240h-c1050b/led-power-supplies/mean-well/

Have a look at Kingbrite for CXB3590s and heatsinks:

https://kingbriteled.en.alibaba.com/

20/18 AWG wire I got off ebay. Mains wire and plugs were cheapest at Toolstation.

Good tools are important or you end up pulling your hair out trying to "make do". Don't scrimp on good wire strippers, a good crimping tool (if needed) a decent adjustable soldering iron (if needed).

Good luck!

thanks! @loftygoals my shopping list was from kingbrite but I wasn't sure if i was allowed to post links to sites. but this is what im going for. Would it work? Do i need supplement lights as people say (red and blue)?
Whats your set up like?

these are my links:

Am i missing anything? I'm assuming the top link is a kit including the lens and holder.

Damn that's a good price for those.

@JDMase primelight.co.uk stock citizens which I know is not the route your taking right now but worth knowing. They also stock a range of heatsinks at what seem to be pretty reasonable prices for us UK dwellers. Not currently on their website as its been redesigned.
Personally in your shoes I would go down the kingbright route too.

Thanks guys, those citizens look pretty cheap, would I be able to use them as a direct swap for the cree's, and what are their key differences if so?
I think I remember someone saying that they're cheaper for a reason but still worth it due to the price.

CREE CXB3590 3000K/30G/BD/90Ra/36V: 33usd/pcs;

Here is 1 solution for you:

6 x led (CREE CXB3590 3000K/30G/BD/90Ra/36V)+ thermal tape+ Ideal 50-2303CR + LED glass lens KB-HB100-80, unit price: 40.8usd/set.

1 x HLG-240H-C1050B: 66usd/pcs; it can run 6 cobs at 36v, each led is 37.8w.

6 x pre-drilled heatsink Φ180*H70mm(for 95-105W): 17.5usd/pcs;

wiring and screws: free.

Shipping cost (about 13kg): 75usd by TNT economy . It takes about 4 days.
Paypal Charge 4.5%.

So the total cost: 512.89usd.

I'm assuming by the /set, that is the price for all 6?

So anyway, that works out to a total of 412 GBP, which isn't too bad, but if anyone has any UK sources that could be cheaper or, alternatives like the citizens then I'd appreciate that.

I went for that driver due to it being able to handle more cob's later on (I think up to 10? )

Also those heat sinks are the round ones on the cutter site but I haven't spec'd any active cooling - I saw geowmau5 video and saw an oscillating fan would suffice.

Let me know your thoughts

The set just means the cob, thermal tape, the holder and the lens/reflector.
I think that driver can only take 6 cobs at that current. Its a 249w driver. Possibly the hlg240-700c would fit 10 cobs but that's lower current so less light per cob.
You could cut down on the size of the heat sink considerably if your only planning to run them at 1050mA.
If you plan to expand your light later you could run 2x HLG-185-1050c which would be enough for 5 cobs each driver in doing so you would be pounding them with photons. There is no real need to. Looks like a good level with your plan.

:-P

Where is @Will Thayer I miss him dearly! (bit off topic)

hi all ive also been drawn here by growmau5 and have been planning a led build which seems harder for us in the uk . I'm in a 4x4 tent and have been thinking about going with 10x cxb3590 on 2x hlg185c1400b drivers I was just wondering if this is the correct configuration and if this was going to be enough to cover my area? any input would help thanks

@Mrfiskar

This video actually helped me loads. It's probably the one you need to watch a few times to really know what to get..Other than the led cob for noobs video!

Any one have some UK suppliers for cob kits? Cree's, citizen, vero, im open to anything. I found digikey and mouser but their websites are horrible for me to navigate on my phone, as far as I can tell citizen and vero are outta stock, and Cree 3590 are about 55£ per unit.
I think the meanwell 240h-1050b was £60 and the 320 is £100, is this worth the extra?
Any heat sink UK suppliers would be handy too.
Thanks
