Any Tips or Tutorials for Growing directly from seeds?

First time, pretty excited about it and scared to mess up as I got some decent seeds and am just planning on planting them in my setup and turning on my lights and fans. Am I being naive? I did a search and couldn't find any tutorial on how to grow directly from seeds so if anyone knows a thread or if I've already got it right, just let me know! Thanks for your help in advance!
