Some of my plants are doing this. They look good and smell good though. Most of them are the Northern Lights #5. The AK 47 and the Blueberry seems to be OK for the most part, The NL#5 are very strong smelling and the buds look great too. I was thinking a Sulfur deficiency? Another question I have is I keep seeing these little tiny fly's/gnats. Not a shitload, but a few. They look like the No See Um's of the Maine Woods. Are they doing any damage to the plants? Look at the pics and tell me what you think? Thanks In Advance.

Its not common but excess Iron can cause brown spots like that. Could be the start of Cal deficiency. Tried to look around but cant find a definite answer. Some Gnat larvae can eat roots. Think they lay their eggs in the soil. Not sure about the ones you have tho.

I am using Miracle Grow Moisture Control Potting Soil. My food is Peter's All Purpose 20-20-20. Before you start trashing my soil and food please be aware that My first crop was PERFECT in looks, bud development, and potency. My first crop that I used everything the same could have been in High Times Magazine because it was so good. lol. A lot of people trash MG, but I got better results with my stuff than at least 7 other people I knew who spent thousands of dollars on soil and nutrients. I used lime to control the PH but the last time I used it was at least 1-1 1/2 months ago. These pics were taken 40 days into the flowering cycle. Do you think they are at the stage they are suppose to be or stunted?

If you do have Gnats they will start multiplying. As Bostoner said, they will eat your roots which stresses your plant.i usually crush and sprinkle mosqito dunks(lowes or home depot) on top soil and this will kill the larvae with no ill effects.Actvates when you water em.

Personally, I think your on the right track with the sulfur deficiency. Correct me if I am wrong but it looks as if the stems on your leaves in teh last 2 pics are redish in color and if it wree an iron deficiency this would not be so unless compounded by another micro problem. As for those gnats, they can be easily dealt with by top dressing a thin layer of sand or diatomacious earth over the potting soil.

Thanks guys. It so cool to have sites like this that can help out fellow smokers. If you didn't know someone in the old days you were screwed...lol. Has anyone heard of the dish detergent and water (soapy water) sprayed over the plants to help with the gnats? Does this work? Does it hurt the buds/plants?

don't spray on the buds it can rot them. i use a soap called dr. bronner's - most hippie grocers and a lot of big store grocers carry it. I use the dr. bronner's peppermint soap to water my soil to get rid of pests.

The spouse made up a batch of the soapy water on our first grow. I'm glad I was convincing enough to get only a test plant sprayed, because it killed that poor girl. Be very careful how much soap goes into it, and test it on a leaf first.

It just doesnt get much easier than mosquito dunks to rid gnats,Dont kill the live ones, but its not about killing them, its about stopping the their chain of multiplyng.Totally gone in a week or less. The live gnats will die off in a few days.

I dont think the gnats are a major prob. Make sure your flowering nutes have N because they are getting pale yellow. Also your pots are a small for those plants. Good work other than that.

OK will do. Half of my plants are in 5 gallon buckets that I filled to about 70%-80%. I was out of money so I had to use the smaller pots on the rest of them. The wife was being a pain in the ass about spending more money we didn't have...lol. My next grow all of them will be the same (5 gallon buckets). What is a good one shot boost for Nitrogen? I am on limited funds due to the economy. Thanks for the kind words :)

if you are 40 days into flower, you will see some of the large fan leaves turn yellow due to lack of N during flowering. that is normal. you are doing it right, I wouldn't change a thing.
