oh jeez, get off your alturistic moral eletiest high horse. The bottom line is marijuana has more than one use. Yes, its great for those in serious need, and guess what its also great for the thousands who were laid off a few years before collecting a pension that have no degree or hope of finding a job. And for those who are close to loosing their house, and those who want to invest in a business that is booming. Look at all of the jobs it has created, you have basic caregivers, the doctors/co workers, grow shops, grow schools, grow school teachers, grow shop suppliers, lawyers. The reason you see a hydro shop opening up on every corner is not because of the guys selling 100 dollar oz's to their 3 patients, its for the vast majority of card holders who are simply recreational users. Should people feel bad growing pot for profit? Are they bad guys? Uhhh no of course not. Feeding your family is not somethign to feel bad about. There is a need, peoploe want to get high, for whatever reason, and where there is a need there jobs, people to support thta need. Wake up. Marijuana has been used for countless purposes for thousands of years, its possibly the most versatile plant on the planet. Who is anybody to say that its "meant for only...." and its wrong to use it for any reason other than ....

THe doctor i got my card from sold me an oz for 400 bucks. I happily paid it, becasue good weed is potent and oz can last a long ass time. Also, who is to say you cant do both, make a little money and help people?

I appreciate the input. I was simply curious. It requires a lot of time and money. I can also appreciate the desire to help those in need. However, I dont think anyone is in position to define the "true spirit" or actual "point" of caregiving. Like anything it will provide different things and fulfill different needs in different people. My patients arent really in need, rather they are just buddies who happen to get their card, so my moral obligation is not as strong as some providing for patients who really need it. Though I think having the primary goal of helping others is wonderful, its just not my situation. I see an oppertunity to earn a nice supplemental income doing something challenging and interesting which will allow me to spend less time at my other job and more time with my wife and daughter. That is my goal. I dont hold up the illusion that it will be a get rich easily sort of deal. Thanks for the replies.
Nothing irritates me more than the patients that think they deserve free or cheap meds because their low income, sick, whatever. I do this for business. I don't smoke pot, and haven't for years. I have 15 years of growing experience, and operate a two room, state of the art grow op. I don't want to get rich. My wife lost her job, and I'm replacing her income with this business. I had quit growing a couple of years ago. I put in a lot of work to run my grow.

I run 3 1000w air cooled switchables, over my ebb & grow. I use House and Garden nutes, which cost an arm and a leg to say the least. I have a computerized atmospheric system, operating my exhaust, co2, and my in room AC. That's just one room. My cool blue multispectrum bulbs are $230 each, plus the 3 MH ones. I use an ez cloner for my little babies.

I have to get up super early to work in the garden, and stay up super late to work at the end of the day, so I don't lose time with my kids. I work my ass off for this job, and earn every penny I charge. Broke ass patients who want everying for nothing can just try to do what I do and see how it goes. I bet you don't pull off a crop for 2 years, if you can scrape up enough cash to even buy the most basic bs equipment they can find. They all come back.

I've seen what passes for "med" quality around here, and it's a waste of time. I would be suprised if there are many who put out what I do. Half of it smells like hay. I dry, manicure, and glass jar cure every nug for 30 - 45 days before anyone gets a single piece.

I consider myself a pro, and expect to earn a living based on that.

Sorry if anyone doesn't think I'm "into the true spirit of the movement" enough for you. Try going to Cali. It costs $25-$35 per gram to buy in those dispensaries. All that happened in that state it is drove the price through the roof. Bring on the dispensaries, I'll get rich.

But for the meantime, my patients get a professional caregiver, who always has more than enough meds of many choices to help their needs. I'm a professional in the business community, so you get a guy who comes over in a nice car, wearing a tie and jacket to bring your meds. And my bags are always heavy. I'm a pro, the rest are a joke.

How are overages factored into all of this math? From what I gather, it's legal(?) to sell "overages" to dispensaries. The numbers listed don't take this into account, correct? Or, was that done purposely?

On a side note, it seems that caregivers (from this thread) usually charge ~$200/oz to their patients; any ideas on what dispensaries are charged and how much business one is allowed to do with a dispensary?

This is a capitalistic society.

Money is necessary to maintain a normal life.

If Caregiving was even half as profitable, most would quit the business or be out of business.

EDIT: And grow for themselves.^

you seem like a real dick. 25-35 a gram in cali eh?

axl, they pay around 300 an ounce for good quality and sell it for 560 (20 a gram)

the dispensary around here sells OG Kush for $375/oz
I sell my OG KUsh for $200 to patients.
Dispensary buys OG Kush for $225/oz
This harvest my overhead per oz is $139/140 per oz.

The arrangement I have with my patients is that they get 1/3 of crops grown in their name, and after that $200 an ounce. Both self and patients find this to be a fair arrangement. I'm in CO though.
I'm in Denver and I haven't seen a better deal, where are you located please? PMs are fine, thanks.

That seems very closed minded. I have two young girls, and made a promise to my wife before we got married that I wouldn't be a stoned dad, as I spent the better part of 10 years in a fog. I can't imagain a worse way to spend time with my kids, if I'm not sick, and need it to feel better. The law allows people to be caregivers, and if you're not a "patient" too, than your breaking the law by smoking. I helping people, making money, and I have an obsession with hydroponics. I get more joy out of growing indoors than I can even express. When I'm done with this, I'll go back to flowers and veggies. It's one of my favorite hobbies.

Nice little CFL by the way, its adorable.

Hey rzza. I have been curious as to how to manage my overages. So dispensaries are buying from individual caregivers? Can I ask which dispensaries, or a PM would be nice. I am guessing you are in Detroit area, while I am on other side of state, and not sure of any near in the GR area.

Thanks.

Supply and demand....if the patient wants to pay next to nothing for their medicine then most of the time they will end up with a caregiver who doesn't have that great of pot. If you truly want the best of the best to medicate with then you will usualy have to pay more for it. At least that's my two cents.

I don't think it is possible to get wealthy from being a caregiver no matter what. If you want to get rich off of cannabis then start a dispensary. That is if you don't mind the legal risk involved with it still being a grey area of the law.

If you REALLY want to make good money then just sell on the black market, and leave the care giving to people who really do care about helping people i say.
That should be the point of a caregiver. Somebody who GROWS their own and will sell it to patients who really need it cheaper. Why have a caregiver if you are going to pay prices higher then you would on the street??????????
I love having my MMJ card but for the most part it seems alot NOT ALL but alot of caregivers just want you to sign over your plants so they can grow more which = More Money. If your a caregiver growing 6 plants on somebody behalf you should be breaking them off at least a free Half Ounce but we all know alot of people are greedy
