I'm SO GLAD i found this thread! I started a thread on another forun titled "the best of the worst" which was asking ANYONE who had used them to please help me choose between these 3 entry-level 600 watt HID kits: 1) APOLLO 2) IPOWER 3) THUNDER (by hydroponics pro).. All 3 kits are VERY SIMILER, all under $200 from Amazon including digital ballast, bulbs, air cooled hood, cords, timer, & hangers.. They all have similer warrenties: 3 yrs on ballast & 1 yr on bulbs.. As for the many Amazon reviews..i do not trust them much since i read that at least one of those 3 companies were giving away "free gifts" or "rebates" for giving a good review..pretty sketchy. Plus most of them are within a month or two of buying the kit..i wanna know if they'll still work in a few yrs, not months. Thanks for the thread..anyone use an IPOWER or THUNDER setup?? Thanks, S.J.

i have a 600 watt cooltube thats worked beautifully for a year and a half going 24/7.. bulbs arent that great.. would buy again and did, the 1k :)
they do like all ballasts have shielding, hence the FCC declaration of conformity stamp and ive never had any issues
i recommend

Well fellas, yall right bout "you get what you pay for" but under my circumstances i have a strong lean to buy the Apollo. Not saying i wont upgrade to a known name brand but for now, the Apollo hopefully will get me by a grow or 2. Oh i did also check ebay to see if they had any deals for 400 kits and ran into the Apollo kits haha they are cheaper on the bay but im curious as to why??? Hmm... Thank you all for the positive input

I just think It is like any other technology when it first comes out like a digi switchable the big names lumitek and such are worth the extra cash but as time goes on and people steal or copy design and the market gets more competitive prices to manufacture drop and we find a few knockoff brands that are just as good as any other big name..

not just ballasts I mean blueray players/flat screens/ laptops the list goes on and on.

Apollo makes good gear IMO and many many others would agree. In fact I have yet to Personally meet someone who was unhappy ith theirs.. Yes I have read bad reviews but i Mean actual feedback from people I know have grown with theirs..

FYI- The tent was a great buy as well though I may have just got lucky I do not know I am the only person I know who has one.

i just recently installed a new 1000w Apollo. I went with the vented hood this time instead of the cooltube...

I ran their 400w cooltube kit for 9 mos...no gullwing, just the cheezy lil screw-on 'wings'...in a bathroom setup...4x5...did great, I didn't even have to exhaust it all winter due to temps and still had it at 12" over my canopy...then a couple months ago I expanded to the back room...10x10...got a light mover and a gull wing but I just wasn't getting the same spread as I was in the confined bathroom area w the same plant counts...so I got the 1000w and things are looking a lot better...

My buddy's going to use the 400w cooltube for his closet grow...though I was able to rotate 4-6 plants under it in the bathroom it just did not perform the same in a larger space. In both cases I'm very happy with the Apollo products...no problems at all...well, as someone else said...their timers are crap.

ymmv
