You guys see a police state? I see the government doing exactly what its supposed to be doing ... keeping the peace and providing security. Anyone here old enough to remember Bobby Kennedy?

Man, I don't know. The entire Civic Park area had TONS of cops there. Plus, they had cops on horseback (around 20 of em) constantly patrolling the area. Seriously the cops around here are usually really laid back, but something really pissed em off for some reason. The "anarchists" that were there weren't doing anything that was against the law it looked like from what I saw (except the one time they ran out into the streets and made a barricade). The Westboro baptist guys were MUCH more of a threat than Recreate68 (the "anarchists"). They were talking about killing homosexuals and atheists while all Recreate68 wanted to do was get rid of the two-party system. The whole thing just seemed way too out of control. And from what people said, the Westboro guys didn't even have the right to protest in the park. Then, they made all the other protestors go to a cage like 5 miles away from the DNC far away from any people or traffic. I don't know whose idea it was, but it seemed like if the forefathers of this country saw the way the citizens are being treated, they would be outraged at what has happend.

You weren't there to see how these guys were being treated. It was total bullshit from my viewpoint. The park is on the other side of the Downtown from where the Pepsi center is; there was absolutely no need for the level of police and force for that area. Seems like the media just took a blind eye to the majority of what was going on, because all I saw on the news were politicians and celebrities having a grand ole time in Denver. There was peace for the majority of the time, but the only time it seemed to get out of hand was when the riot police actually provoked the protesters into action.

Here is the crux of the problem. Vi is a "have" and he feels he needs protection from the "have nots", thus he sees the police state as protection for his wealth. The bottom line to making America work is to eliminate the gap between the "haves" and the "Have nots"

i'm not going to be too worried about these riot police. seems like they only stick around for these events and follow the powerful men and women along with their campaigns.

if these riot police stay in those certain states for years, then that's a problem. it's like they are planting troops all over the US.

Yes, and they have been for years. They prohibit use of any non-lobbied drugs, i.e., alcohol, tobacco, pharmaceuticals to create criminals. Then they say they need more cops to catch these "criminals." They also further organized crime this way, requiring even more policing.

But the fact of the matter is, in my honest opinion, we are already in a police state. They're just playing nice right now and a crack down is coming very soon.

Get ready for war with Iran and Russia. Possibly China as well.

I think we'll all be lucky to even have a presidential election in November.
