@UncleBuck shoot it in the head ..I think that would be the most humane way to put an animal Down at home. I wouldn't stab it, that's mean! For the record ..I wouldn't starve it to death I was joking..

sorry. this creature is going to die. i will stab it through the cage to disable it, then open the cage and slice its throat.

if anyone can think of a more humane way to kill an animal in a cage without a gun, i'm all ears.
Electricity. Lots and lots of electricity. And water.

Shoot, we just had a have a heart trap (a live trap) up for sale on Craig's list. Worked for us wonderfully but we don't need anymore
i've been keeping an eye on the dogs when i let them out at night now, just in case.

last night around 1 am, my mastiff/coonhound mix was mozying aound, looking for a place to poop, when all of a sudden something caught his attention over in the corner of the yard. he alerted and started doing a really deep growl/bark.

i didn't see what ran away for sure, but there were a few of them. i'm guessing it was a family of raccoons, since he is a coonhound. that would explain why all 5 of our chickens were devoured pretty much in place, without any noise whatsoever.

we'll find out tonight. i bought the trap and am just waiting until to dusk to set it and bait it.

I'm betting it's raccoons too. We've caught them in said trap. Also caught a baby bear in it once. It wandered in there to eat the food set out for the raccoons one night. Man was he MAD! Momma was close by and it was really tricky to try and trip the trap to let him out w/o getting mauled by angry/stressed mom bear.

that sounds like a hell of a situation.

i honestly can't wait to kill these things one by one. and i usually hate killing stuff too.

I had a similar problem when I trapped rats. I don't own a gun or even a pellet pistol. I filled a tote with water, tossed the trap in it and walked away. If you are a ninja then yeah, stabbing will be effective. Otherwise its going to look more like a massacre than an execution. I thought about it when I had to do it and felt that any animal I stabbed was just as likely to suffer as it would while drowning, with the added risk to my person.

Make sure the trap can't accidentally open when you put it into water or you'll have one wet pissed off predator to deal with.

Another idea would be to put the trap in an ice chest or tote with air already saturated with CO2 from dry ice. I haven't tried this yet but might.

Other ideas: Call the vet and see if they will take care of it for you. Or maybe an animal wildlife center will take it off your hands.

Wrap the cage in a big garbage bag or two. Attach to muffler. Poke small hole at opposite side. Sit in car and smoke weed and listen to tunes for a few minutes. I've killed 3 this way. Fairly humane. The tunes drown out the last couple screeching gasps.
that's more than humane, the raccooon goes out to some of the happiest dreams imaginable. needs to be more cruel.

Why don't you see if they will self migrate? Try putting some tofu dogs out there. They piss raccoons off! Perhaps some subtle psy-war shit... Like we did to Noriega?

If your chicken coop was full of dog crap and cactus, I would say it was Finshaggy for sure.

Today's cars don't put out CO like the older ones did. Its not as reliable of a method as it used to be.
