Hey everyone, first time grower here. this is being grown covertly for 6 weeks and has just been put on 12/12. do these hair esq structures mean its a fem?District 9-20120209-00345.jpg

Oh yeah, those are lady parts! :hump:

Little hairs like that are called "pistils". In nature, they are the female plant's way of catching pollen. Normally, they would trap the pollen in their sticky resin, and the pistils would then retract into what is known as the "calyx". When you smoke a bud, all those little tear-drop shaped bits that make the bud up are the calyxes. They are the pods where seeds would grow if pollen came into contact.

BUT, we of course keep all pollen out of our grow rooms, which means NO DUDES!! :) But, since you're asking if it's a lady, I'm guessing you already knew which ones to keep around!!

Male parts look similar to male parts in most of nature--that is to say, you will see a dicklike structure and two little balls below it!

Keep that little lady on 12/12 for about 70 more days and you'll reap the benefits in the form of some buds!!

Happy growing to you!

thanks a lot guys, shes my only one. i had a few more questions and i think il take advantage of your knowledge base. is it worth getting headband and northern light seeds, or just cloning these, and i also am not comfortable cutting them.

Hey, trees,

You will find that cloning is the greatest thing that has ever existed in the history of man. Check out the second and third pages of my grow journal. I go through how I clone in there using a Jiffy Pellet dome. Now, you don't want to clone a super baby plant just yet. Let her get some more nodes on her. You also don't usually want to clone a flowering plant, as it takes longer to revert to a vegetative state once the plant is full of the flowering hormone.

However, many people, I'm sure, will tell you they have success cloning from flower. I have never tried it, but I have 100% success with my clones, so why try anything different?

Cloning is very simple, and can be done for a cost of about $10--$5 for a tiny cup of Rootech cloning gel, and $5 for a Jiffy Pellet seed starter/humidity dome at WalMart.

Once you have these things, you can find SO many videos about how to cut the plants, etc. Like I said, you can also check out my current journal. Happy growing to you!

thanks for the advise humble, i didnt know this was in the flowering stage already. its got to be close to 2 months old now. so i shouldnt take clones now?

oh dont be paranoid..and the only reason i ask is because the "headband" aka sour kush from rp isnt real headband they just use the name..its still a good strain though.

Hey, trees, as long as the plant is popping pistils like you show in your original picture, it's gotta be in the flower stage! If you haven't already flipped the lights to 12/12 and induced this flowering stage on your own, there is a chance that you have an autoflowering strain--i.e., a strain that will flower on its own, regardless of photoperiod, and without the specific need of a 12 hour dark period that most strains require to produce the flowering hormone.

If you have induced flowering, and the plant is popping pistils because you have switched the light cycle to 12/12, you can still clone, but like I said, many growers advise against cloning in the flowering stage. I take clones off of vegetative plants that are kept under 24 hour light. While some growers will advise a dark period of at least 4 hours for all plants, I have seen no adverse effects from growing vegetative plants under 24 hour light for the last year. We're talking dozens of plants.

I take my clones off of these vegetative plants just before I am ready to throw them into flowering. This allows me to run a perpetual garden in which I have no delay between cycles. As soon as a huge bush or six come out, a huge bush or six go right back into flower. Since I take clones from vegetative plants, I have 100% success, and my clones produce roots in 7-10 days, with 14 days being the longest I have ever waited to see roots.

The age of a plant does not usually matter as far as cloning goes. You can keep a mother plant alive for 2 years if you give her the right nutes and light and keep her roots clean enough, taking clones off of her every day. What matters is the photoperiod the plant is in.

I hope this helps!

if you just flipped to 12/12 you can take a clone....it will just take a bit longer to root because of the transition to flower

they will be fine tho. just take a few of the lowest breaches that are gonna be lacking anyways
