Quick update... an extra 36 hours in the jar...has caused some pleasant changes.... so hopefully in a few more days..i will have some real tasty dank :) maybe its just cos they are the tops..maybe the extra 36 hours in the jar... who knows...but its smelling a lil bit better now :) and im happy...

Did u "burp" the jar within that 36 hours? The bud I had in a paper bag for the last 3 days tasted really good this morning. Like right where I wanted it. So I put it in a jar, AGAIN, and by the time I went to burp it this evening, it had a little harshness, like it did before(though not as harsh). And that, I guess, wet taste. It's just not as strong as it was before I re-dried the bud in that bag. I guess there is some kind of moisture still in there that needs to come out. Will it come out in the jars?:peace:

No i have stopped burping since about day 10 cure.. maybe just a quick open and close to check on the smells once a day...

Well the concept is that you put your buds in the jar to make the most come out of them, some sort of process occurs. Whereas if you didn't put the bud in an airtight container, it would dry up. So the trick is to transfer the nugs from paper bag to jar, as many times as needed, to achieve the optimal dryness. Sounds like some moisture and other things came back out in the jar when you noticed the harshness to return, probably because the stem holds a lot more moisture than you see and that's a possible factor. I suggest letting the buds sit in a container with the lid off for the night... you should wake up to some much better smoke.

You'll have to balance the bud moisture like this for the first 30 days... then the cureing is pretty much as good as it can get.

Curing has as much to do with aging of the bud with an even dry. With time the sugars and chlorophyll ect breakdown for a smoother tastier smoke When you open the jar to burp (and leave lid off for an hour or two)the outside of the bud drys out and when you reseal it the moisture in the middle of the bud is drawn to the drier outside, keep repeating and your bud dries evenly.I've found a minimum of a month(though I sample plenty early) and your weed is good and tasty.

So do those bud dryers change jar times/lengths? Is it a good idea to use the dryer to pull the moisture out then let it cure in jars? Will it cure with lower moisture levels? I dont mean to Hijack the post I just thought this could get us some more useful info. I have read ,just like all of you, that if you dry it out too fast it is a harsh smoke. It just seems like you could shave a week off of the process with the dryer in the beginning, then cure in a jar.

hey bro, by any means i am no expert, however ive been blessed with the oppurtunity to observe a few guys with plentiful knowledge of growing, do thier thing during the curing process, and honestly they all kept thier nuggz in the jar for AT LEAST 3 and a half weeks...tihey where workin with the og kush, so maybe it differs, however i hear from many a month is optimal...u may have jumped the gun my friend...yes this sounds like a long time but im sure it will be worth every nail biting hour. think of your bud as a bottle of fine wine....anyhow another possibility is maybe your using mason jars which i have saw to be not as effective for a nice cure...try the jars with the rubber seal and metal clampy thingermajiggs on them...lol anyhow good luck!

i dried for 4 1/2 days(wanted to do longer but cali weather wouldn't permit it). the put in mason jars, burping twice a day for first 7 days. then about once a day after that. day 12 and looking real good. we've been testing since cure day 1.... just keeps getting better day by day. curing in air conditioned room around 72 mostly. put 1 jar in fridge to see what happens...bad idea. had to open jar and re-dry.

That harsh taste is most likely because you didn't, in fact, dry long enough. If you have all your bases covered as you said. Maybe just waiting for the stem to snap was not a good indication this time around with this strain. As in, maybe things were for the most part dry but the inner most part of the buds still had time left . The smoke test among other things is on my top list for checking dryness. Sometimes you can't only go by if the stem snaps or not.
