Am I curing right???

After 4 days, my stem were breaking(literally snap in half). Not bending. I put it in a jar 2 weeks ago. Now the first 4 -5 tokes are PHENOMENAL(sweet & smooth), but when u get to the 5 toke or so, it turns to a harsh, nasty wet grassy taste. Even though that stem is breakable, should I have left it drying a little longer? Yesterday, I took it out the jars, and placed them in a paper bag. Hoping to extract moisture, if any is left. Haven't tried smoking it today. The buzz is there! Until I get that nasty taste in my mouth, than it seems to take away from the buzz:cry:. When I was curing it, the humidity was never above 45% and the temp never over 73 f. There wasn't COMPLETE darkness ALL the time in the room, BUT!!!!!!!! There was never DIRECT light on the harvesting plants either. But it still received lights indirectly, from the walls, I guess. Cause there was light in the same room. The bud was in a closet with no doors. So light got in the closet. but the light was not near the closet, to where rays from the source of light was getting in there, besides bouncing off walls, as I said earlier. Any advice will be appreciated.:peace:

P.S. The strains are Power Skunk & Super Silver Haze. Also, if this helps out......... When me, or anyone else smokes it, when we get to the funny taste, it makes EVERYONE sneeze. And I mean EVERYONE! So it has to be something with the bud. We can smoke any other bud and it doesn't do that to us. Just these buds from this harvest.

Most ppl manicure first. With the curing the only thing I can think of is, that after you put it in the jar (even with breaking stems) you should have aired it out a few times a day for the first week or so. I'm no expert, so I'll give you another bump and maybe we'll find one.

I'm sorry, I put everything else into detail except for wat u brought up. Yes I BURPED the jars twice a day at 10-15 minutes a day, for the last 2 weeks. Sorry I thought I put that in my post.:peace:

Yes for 10 days. I use Advanced Nutrients Final Phase for flushing then follow it with 7-14 days of fresh water. I must admit that unlike the last grow, the Power Skunk DID NOT lose any color from her leave, towards the end. There was no signs of nute burn on the leave, BUT they were a dark green. On this grow I learned that SATIVA needs a higher pH. So I let my pH stay at about 5.9-6.0 for the flowering, so she took in more nutes on this grow than the last. Plus this grow I gave the PS more nutes than last time. On my first grow I was constantly burning my girls. So my PPM never really got passed 1100 PPM, though my nute company suggests 1750 PPM( I use Dutch Master Gold Series). On this grow my PPM hit 1800 PPM with no signs of nute burn. BUT my leaves were a DARK green, which shows signs of nutes being overly present. Do u think that has something to do with the taste, and the sneezing. I also used Advanced Nutrient Bud Candy as a Sweetner.

idk maybe just the strain ive heard of a few that make you sneeze and if the smoke goes from nice to harsh maybe you needed a few more weeks cure ?

Yeah, I heard to always do a 30 day cure with the jars... that it really makes the difference compared to a 1,2,3, etc. week cure. The fact that it's only been 2 weeks (if a 30-day cure is the answer), and most of the weed is good, shows to me that you just need a longer time to cure in the jars. There's some sort of a process that happens with the sugars and stuff in the plant (i'm no scientist, nor expert) that is said to take sometimes the full 30 days to complete. I suppose that process has something to do with the bud matter processing the bad tasting chemical (chlorophil?). My 2 cents.

Ur absolutely right on the chlorophyll. I think that's wat's making all of us sneeze. not sure. But I figured it was something to do with the chlorophyll. +rep

Truthfully that comment can be taken in the wrong way BUT!!!!!!! How can I argue with the truth? It really is a patience thing, and for most of us "new" growers, we tend to "speed" things up(not intentionally). Like with me. Those stems were breaking in half in three days. The bud seemed brittle. So I took it down, and put them in the jar, burping 2 times a day. I should have waited 2 more days. It might seem dry, but I guess it wasn't. and maybe I'm suppose to cure for a whole month. I was under the impression that the whole "drying & curing" took a month. As far as these "books" and "videos" say. 5 days-2 weeks drying and 2 weeks curing. I hope I figure what I did wrong soon. cause it'll suck if I can't get it right:cry:!

Sorry if im jacking your thread, but ive been having the same problem, Flushed plants in DWC, smell great before and when cut. Manicure then After hanging in dark closet for 4-5 days, outside of buds are dry, cut buds into smaller chunks put them in a brown cardboard box for up to 24 hours, jar them up burp etc ...2 weeks later. no smell AT ALL but smooth smoke..no taste... nothing..but smooth smoke..and get wasted definately but wheres the taste and smell? plenty of trichs on the bud and they look proper too just no taste, and i really wanna taste it :( what am i doing wrong? Unfortunately ive never been able to let them go a full 30 day cure.... perhaps i should put part of this last harvest away for 30 days and see if that helps?

That's pretty much wat I'm trying to figure out also brother. Cause I'm not growing bags seeds. It's Power Skunk and Super Silver Haze. So I feel u on wanting to taste it.:peace:

Exactly my friend.... bought weed doesnt taste or smell of anything here... only reason i started to grow was cos i missed the sweet smells of home.....oh well ive put aside some nice colas in a diff jar somewhere i cant access it easily..so they can go a full 30 days... i have some pure power plant coming up next..and i definatley wanna get the cure down before i cut those down:)

I feel u on that. I've got (1)The Church and (1)Lemon Skunk that'll be going into flowering next week. I think this is where I've messed up. I never started w/ bag seeds. I went straight to the Name Breeders. My first was the (1)G13 Power Skunk and (2)Barney's Blue Cheese. My second was again (1)G13 Power Skunk, (1) Greenhouse Super Silver Haze, And (1) K.C. Brains Brasil x K.C.(Which went "hermie" on me within less than 1 month). The funny thing is there were some nice cola's for it being 40-60 away from being done. I actually got close to 3/4 oz of premature NUGS. It tasted like dookie, but it got me really buzzed. A little trippy but it worked. As far as the Power Skunk, I love it. They were free seeds, with my order. I still have 5 of them left. They're not feminized, But I got females 2 out of 5 seeds. And only 4 germinated. So that's not bad. 2 females out of 4 regular seeds. Plus, it's such an easy plant to please. It's very forgiving, and the smell is sooooooooooooo so so sweet. Even the first few tokes are extremely sweet, then it gets nasty. The buds I have put in a paperbag seem to be gettin a better taste, but it still has a little harshness to it, but some of that nasty taste I spoke of, has gone away. I think I'll put them back in the jar tomorrow, and see if that little bit of harshness goes away. But it has made the bud a little better to smoke. I hope ur stash comes out well. Let me know if u get ur taste right and how many days u cured for.:peace:

Ive never had a problem with harshness unless i smoke the bud without Jarring it at all, ive tried putting fresh leaves in with the curing bud for 24 hours then removing still nothing. for me i get maybe 1 in 6 buds that i cut up..that will give me a wonderful Olfactory Orgasm....but other than that...no smell *sob sob*... hopefully in another 14 days that jar i put away will have some wonderful smells coming from it hehehe...
