Alternative to burning (flame)

Hi all,

I'm looking into a no flame alternative to smoking with a lighter... I'm mostly interested in the Herb Iron as I mostly smoke cannabis with the occasional hashish.
I've been looking at dabbers but it feels like such a waste of gas and all, and there's a bigger risk of burns with those stupid torches. Is there any advantages to Skillets and Dabbers and nails? Or is the Herb-Iron the real way to go?
Let me know your opinion, thanks!
SunnyHours.

What I meant was I'd like an alternative to smoking using a flame...as far as I know a wick still uses a flame.
Thanks though, I wasn't clear

You can use a glass rod. Works very well. :-) They should sell them at your local hydro shop.

Oh but you have to use a flame or preferably a torch to get the rod hot.

Here's what it is.images.jpg

Personally I'd prefer glass for two reasons -

A. You don't have to wait as long for the glass to get hot under a lighter, the iron will take longer to heat up.

B. You don't have to have a wall socket wherever you are smoking, trust me that's a pain in the ass.

Really it's personal preference but IMO burning iron over and over again I'd think it would start to need new tips a lot. Plus they degrade away so you have to be smoking some of the iron tip right? Glass, not so much.

But again, just my opinions. :-)

Well check out the Herb-Iron...they say 6-8sec heat up time from cold start and it uses a ceramic heating element so it's a ceramic tip, not iron...
Also I don't mind the cord since I always smoke from my bong in my room anyways...

Anyone else could give me some advantages of the glass rods or other concentrate accessories over the Herb-Iron?
Thanks.

I got tired of the lighters and picked up a hakko soldering iron and removed the soldering tip to expose the ceramic element. I liked it but didn't appreciate having to plug it in/unplug it/hope not to burn the house down/have someone trip over it.

I've since started using the glass wand/torch and love it, especially with concentrate toppers :)

Has no one invented a best-of-both-worlds deal where you have a glass wand that sits in something for 30 seconds to get mad hot? Like a cup-shaped electric torch substitute?

I'm picturing a stationary upright soldering iron with ceramic tip (like the bud iron sounds like it is) but with a cup-shaped head that you stick your wand into for a brief time to heat up, then pull it to use.

Why mess with a blow torch? I don't want to have to waste a ton of gas on a torch constantly, and I like the idea of using a glass wand instead of a flame, ESPECIALLY on concentrates... I haven't really come up with a way to smoke a kiefed bowl without flaming the kief, which seems like it might do more harm than I'd like... (I'll take any other hints on most efficient ways to smoke up some kief too guys)

I can deal with a cord if it's not attached to what I have to hold. Seems like a good compromise if it keeps the electric/dangerous part on the table, stable, and near the plug. Seems just as safe as a vaporizer. Maybe even better than the whip kind, I've pulled my whip vape over enough times to know it's not too hard to do! This seems comparable to the safety of a volcano as far as the cord is concerned... and it seems safer than a blowtorch as far as "handling really hot shit" is concerned...

Does anything like that exist?

I actually think this is a good idea...it would probably sell if it's well built, safe and looks professional.
That, or a way to do dabs with the Herb-Iron (unless it's possible, I dunno)...

Now that I think about it, maybe I could just stick a glass nail right into the open end of my vaporizer so it's up against the ceramic element... it's not going to be cup shaped but should still do the trick to some degree... anyone ever tried this? Anyone have a whip vape with ceramic element and a glass nail to try it with?

It'd be a lot better with something upright so the nail could just sit in there like a pen holder... I guess I could lay the vape on it's side and mod it a little so it doesn't roll away...

And the other problem I'm still seeing is that it's just a rod-on-rod contact rather than a slot or hole you could stick the nail into... as a result i imagine it would take longer to heat up...
