allergies to pscilocybin?

Is it possible to be allergic to pscilocybin? I mean I'm sure it is but does anyone know of any cases where that is directly associated with an allergy?

My friend has approached me with interest in trying some mushrooms. However, being that he is deathly allergic to many things, he is concerned greatly that he may be allergic to mushrooms but would still like to try them. He does have an epy pen(sp? the little allergy needle thing people carry around for bee stings and shit) so if something goes weird after ingestion we should be ok and he wont die or anything. So I'm not concerned there.

But, does anyone know of anyone allergic to magic mushrooms? Also, if he was concerned about it and wanted to play it safe, would taking a benedryl near ingestion be a good idea to pre-emptively prepare himself for an allergic reaction?

doctor patient confidentiality, he can go to a clinic and find out if hes allergic, if he really wants to do them

Is he allergic to other mushrooms? If not maybe he should take a small sample dose while he has someone standby for a few hours to see if he has a problem although one consideration with this approach is some allergies do not manifest until the second exposure of a substance, the first exposure serving as a 'sensitizing' incident. If there were to be a reaction it depends greatly on the immune component activated (IGG, IGE, IGM, etc.). Good luck with that.

At first there were no problems, but after dosing 2-3 times a week for over a year I noticed itching when dosing. Even after holding off for months... the same symptoms occured. Benedryl at the start of a trip helps now (50mg).

There have never been any recorded deaths from Psilocybe mushrooms.

But let's be specific here as far as "magic" mushrooms go... the Amanta (or Cyan) strain are not Psilocybe. They have a low level of Cyanide as well as having hallucinigenic properties. Over dose on this strain can cause death. Very few people eat this strain and they are the ones seen in the movies and in posters having the bright orangish red caps with the white spots on them.

Now I will tell you though that if your friend trips the fuck out on Psilocybe shrooms and walks into a hospital ER, and mushroom posioning is suspected, and he can not verbalize that they were typical magic mushrooms... the antidote given for "typical" forrest found mushroom poisoning will react with the Psilocybe shrooms and cause a very bad reaction (even death).

You see... no matter how fucked up you are on regular shrooms you are; you will not die. You might itch, maybe puke, maybe jerk on the floor. But you will not die.

Eat a bunch of orange ones with white dots on top.... yep, you could.

Eat a bunch of everyday magic mushrooms and show up in the ER ... yep you could.

One way to avoid this whole mess is to put your Psilocybe shrooms into a pot of water and heat untill they are just steaming.

Steam them untill the shrooms turn brown.

Drain water into a glass.

Squish any remaining water from shrooms and drain into same glass. This whole process removes any impurities that cause a reaction.

Flavor "tea" with honey and drink for a nice clean super trip.

Hate to break it to ya cheif but you apparently know jack shit about shrooms. People like you who mis-inform people are the problem these days. Please dont give out info and call it fact when you have no idea what the fuck just came off the tips of your fingers onto the computer screen, you make us trippers look bad. Thanks there.

Cyans are not posionous first off. Where the fuck did you here about cyanide in cyans? Ughhhhh dude you sound like the Fuckin cops or government tryin to blind people of facts. They contain psilocybin not muscrarine as you speak of. Cyans contain higher levels of psilocybin than do psilocybe cubensis. They are perfectly fine to eat. Just eat about a third of what you would with cubes when it comes to pan cyans. They're potent.

The soma shrooms, they are amanita muscaria that you want to trip on. Fuck that though i say stick to psilly. Many people who have ingested muscarine do not consider it a pleasant enough experience to repeat. However there are many deadly amanita species so be careful with soma. They are red with white spots not orange, that is another species which would lead to a long ass post.

You are right though that one simply cannot consume enough majic shrooms to cause death with just the shrooms alone.

Is your friend on any medications? If not i'd not worry about it. I get itchy sometimes on shrooms too, try takin a week or two off and give it a full blown 1/4 ounce trip in the dark, see what ya think, literally. Main thing, have fun.

Below are some pics of Pan Cyan Veitnam species(courtesy of Waylit Jim over at the topia.)(loaded with majic, aint no fuckin cyanide in em.), and a shot of amanita muscaria.

If you follow the advice from the joker quoted above you are on your own.
