Would you consider buying a VERO after reading through some of the posts?

Hey guys new here.

I have a 5' wide x 5 wide x 8' high tent

I was considering a Cob setup and was looking at building 4 frames that are 2 x 2 feet and placing a cob in each corner of the frame. That would be 4 Cobs per frame which is 16 Cobs.

I was gonna buy Vero29 Cobs at 3000k for these 4 frames and this would be for Flowering and vegging too.

Then i was also gonna build another 2 x 2 foot frame and install 4 Cobs like the other other ones i wanna make, so thats 4 Cobs 1 in each corner but using the Vero29 4000k Cobs. This would be for the main vegging and turn it off when i flower.

Or i was gonna put 5 Cobs per Frame so thats 4 frames only and 5 Cobs.. 4 being 3000k and 1 in the middle is 4000k and run then all through the entire grow.

What do you think and how much heat will this be?
There will be flames only cactus will grow. lol just kidding we would have no idea since you dont give any information about how many watts you plan to run them at. You would need about 700 to 800 watts for a 5x5 though. Get dimmable drivers and just dim to veg with the 3000k and save you some bucks.

Yeah sry 900w to 1000w total

I may go with timbers Cree or Vero setups 900w or do a 1000w framework setup

in the US at least the 50V is same price as 36V and much higher efficiency
Not what my data sheet says or maybe I am really high. For example the 3000k 80cri 36 volt D verison 50.6 watts @ 176 Lm/w Now the B version or the 50 volt ones driven @ 900ma for 44.7 watts gets 169 lm/W. At least that is what the data sheet says. The B is not going to gain any lumens per watt when driving it @ a true 50Watts. Seems to me the D version is better @ 50 watts Then the B or 50volter

It depends on how many cobs you use more COBS less heat. More efficient setup are breaking 60% efficiency so that would put out 40% heat.So 1000 Watts would be 400 Watts of heat. So basicly you would have a 400 Watt heater along with your grow light.

16 cobs

lm redoing my light and just pulled the solder 'terminal' off vero 29. Should i just solder to new exposed plate / 'terminal' where + used to be? Or get a vero connector?
I think it will prob be fine just soldering to exposed metal there...groan...

Just broke another. I cannot seem to find the EZ-Mate adapters for Vero29s.

IDK if they are all the same as digikey only shows they work for up to vero18s. I searched but have yet to figure out...thanks.

You need the pico thats pigtailed to 18AWG i believe it is, for the vero 29. Get a few extra cause they break quite easy. Also if you invest in a hotter/ better soldering iron you wont pull the pads off like that.

The soldering iron is not the issue.
Cutting this light in half and had to cut welds and put too much tension on wires by mistake.
Moving the 7 COBs that were on right side to between the left and what was center row so they will all be how one at front of attached pic is.
I think I will just re-solder them as cannt figure out what plugs to buy.

Can any help find the thread where they talk about vero 29s par reading at various amps.
So what you really want to know is the PPF of a cob at a given wattage. So check out this thread, especially post 18.

https://www.rollitup.org/t/par-multiplier-thread.928907/

So take a common 3000K/80 cri cob. Just take the lumens from the Vero data sheet at a given power level, THEN divide by 69 (easy to remember). That will give you the PPF (close) that you can expect from that cob. Then you can plan/build for the number of square feet you want to cover and the target PPFD you would like.

It was a thread and I think it was done by the guy from northern grow lights where he measured par the v29 at 12 inches in a 2ft by 2ft at different amps 1.4 2.1 2.8

Anyone know how cool a vero29 v2 3000k 80cri would run at 600ma?
Could it be passive cooled and what sort of distance is be able to get to the canopy?

Sent from my Pixel using Rollitup mobile app

Looking for some passive pin heatsinks that are predrilled for vero29s, planning on running them up to 65w, so I am thinking 140 or 150mm x 70mm. Anyone have a good recommended source? All I am finding with anything in stock is kingbrite on alibaba, would rather order from somewhere in the states if I can. I need 4 for right now, but will need more in the future.

Check out CDI as well. It looks like they've updated their site since earlier today. They have pin and star heat sinks so it will come down to aesthetics and price.

Spliffunk, aside from Northern the only other I've seen is Rapidled but they won't have any available for at least a few weeks.

Both Northern and Rapid were showing out of stock, emailed them both and Rapidled stood up to their name! Mike from rapid emailed me back within MINUTES! He said they should have some in about 10 days, but he was able to invoice me now so they will ship as soon as they get them. Really great service so far!
