All my seedlings are drooped over, fading away and look dead ??? Please help :(

Hey Guys, my 3 seedlings are looking green and healthy from what I can see (This is my first time growing so my opinion means nill aha :P) So I'm gonna run through my setup and what I've done so far really quickly !

My setup is a 60x80x80cm grow tent, 1 large intake fan at the bottom, with 1 small disposal fan up on top attached to a carbon filter. My lights are 2 MarsHydro 300W LED's (true watts equal just under 300 from what I've researched) and these lights hang about 60-70cm above the bottom of the tent. The running heat on both of these leds is about 35celsius. Now this is very high I know, but I am in Australia and it's not easy to keep it cool, but I belive its cooler since the intake fan is blowing cooler air, so I would assume its roughly 28-30c at true temp.

Now what have I done to kill these plants ? heres my story --- (crime show Dah Dah)

I soaked 4 seeds in distilled water for 24hr, then moved them into a wet paper towel for 2 days. After checking on day 1 they were slightly showing the root, on day 2 the root was about 2-3cm on 2 of the seeds, 1 was about 1cm long and 1 hadn't cracked at all.

I then put them root down into seed raising mix (which I completely forgot to soak beforehand so it was dry) I then gave them a good water and put them into the tent to get to buisiness. A couple of days passed and 2 plants had sprouted a good couple cm and were on there first set of TRUE leaves, 1 was stuck inside its shell but was getting there.

Now on about day 3-5 there was negligible growth, and I wasnt sure why and too my research I may have over watered them and the symptoms were fitting the description so I stopped watering them and put them closer to the LED light (roughly 30cm away). About 12 hours later they were all drooped over like this, I gave them a few small waterings as not to overdrench them, and made sure the soil is moist with it lightly drying out before another water.

These plants are not coming back after 2 days like this, they seem to be shriveling up even more as time passes. With all the mighty knowledge this forum contains, can someone please help me fix or avoid this tragedy !!!

Thankyou in advance :)

At the start when I say they look healthy, I mean aside from the obvious drooping...I see no spots of anything aside green !

Extra details - Humidity is about 10-20% (I have ordered a humidity dome for my next lot of seeds)

looks like the air is too dry and the seedlings are drying up... u should try to keep the humidity @ least 50% or above
Hhmm, okay well I'm putting the bottoms of water bottles over the top of the soil/seedling to act as a makeshift himidity dome. Hope that works a tad. Do you think they will come back or are they gone ?

I would use a sprayer and mist them up a bit then put dome over and let humidity build up but keep an eye on them dont want them getting to humid ;)

Hey guys just an update, they all died. The stems completely shriveled up and the leaves went a little crusty, it was just a dead mess. Round 2 aha !

The soil does look a little coarse. I would suggest something a little finer just for the start off, or buy something that wil bring the seedling along a little before going into the soil.

Where the soil was dry I would imagine you have not had enough moisture around the root, basically its dried out and died. Watering will be difficult in soil like this at that stage as the water will just fall through it, which is great once the plant is established, but in the early stage you need an almost constant moisture on that root.

Best of luck on round 2. :peace:

Oh no, sorry to hear that winny, as G V said maybe try some different medium that has a ph of 6-7 and has nutes to feed for 4/5 weeks for seedling thro veg then add nutes after 5 weeks, just water as needed, and just gently mist them once a day ... Hope round 2 goes better for you mate you will get there 8)

Your problem was not necessarily low humidity and domes are never a good idea with seedlings as high humidity promotes damping off, a death sentence. I germ in a boiler room that very little humidity, sometimes none, and I've never seen a look like yours - but my temps are kept in low 70s. Looks like high temps or medium that was too hot. Get a seedling soil mix for next run, keep your temps in check and don't dome!

Sounds like you simply let it dry out. But be careful watering. Domes are ok for seedlings, but keep all vents open to keep too much moisture from building up. Like Bugeye said, damping off is one of anybody's biggest hurdles when taking care of seedlings (that and letting them dry out!)

Looks like you got this handled.

I just really want to know, is it fall there right now? And what's the biggest spider you ever seen in your house? Hahaha
ahaha It's the start of Autumn right now, except summer is still in full swing which sucks (aussie summers suck majorly). Biggest spider Ive seen was a Huntsman spider that was about 20cm from leg to leg, some can get about 50% bigger than that !!! They are no problem for humans though, its the red tails you need to watch out for..those ugly son of a b!tches hurt :P

Thanks man, I've taken the advice from yourself and Tone24 and got a more neutral soil , with low nutrient that is good for starting seeds that might need a bit more moisture. Considering my humidity is around 10% while its 30ish degrees celcius I'm thinking of getting a humidifier to bump it up at least another 20-30% RH. Cheers for the help guys, hopefully my next post brings better news :D

Alright guys, the last comment to end this thread with a solution I think has fixed my problem....I HOPE !!! Went out to the local chemist and purchased a Humidifier for $60 and filled it with some distilled water (the only water thats going to see the inside of my grow tent, don't trust tap). After 2 hours I noticed some awesome results, my humidity is up to roughly 60% RH and my temperatures have dropped around 5 D/celcius. If anyone is suffering from the same problem I have (high temp, low RH) I can't reccomend getting one enough, plus it disperses smell which should aid my carbon filter.

Thanks for the help all !

A very wise move. Sounds like the environment is in a much more stable place now.

Keep an eye out for W.P.M and they should flourish very nicely in there.

My girlies at 36 days from seed
Damn man, looking great ! Pineapple express xD Can't wait until there are more reliable ways of getting seeds into Au$tralia, its one of the first strains I want to grow (Yes, mostly because of the movie :P), that and White W. Best of luck on the grow mate !

Water your soil and keep the light (like a t5) about 12" above them. The heat from the light will create enough humidity to not need a dome. Wait until the soil on top starts to dry then water again and you'll be good.

Make sure (very important) you have good drainage as you dont want any standing water in the bottom of whatever you're using. I use solo cups and drill holes in the bottom and on the sides at the bottom.

Good luck!
