All hairs, no bud?!

Hi everyone.

I was cutting up a bud that has been drying and I am looking at it, and realize there is very little actual bud in it.

It seems to be all brown hairs layered and layered and layered over brown hairs. The weed has tons of stems on top of that. Found 3 seeds in the bud also.

First time experiencing this. Sorry the picture are kinda crap.

Anyone know why the weed only focused on the hair production? Male or something?

Only females have the hairs which are actually called pistils.The little green pod that thr pistils come out of are known as calyxes.

Tge calyxes and pistils are individual female flowers,as the plant flowers it focuses it's energy into producing more flowers than leaves.

specs?..strain, day# at harvest

don't u just hate shit weed ...my experiences with plants that normally grew bud but then grew all hairs no bud .....to hot in flower or poopy a strain

The strain is 'Skunk Special', I think it was a free seed the seed bank gave me. I am not even sure the breeding company. One of my seeds died and I replaced it with that.

Rolling a joint of it right now, going to test the effects.

You said you found seeds. Maybe it was seeded so early in flower that it didn't feel the need to produce additional calyxes and just focused its energy on seed maturation. And like colonnugs said high heat can definitely play a role. I have a sleestack skunk that's exhibiting stunted calyx development due to heat issues. Could be crap genetics. Its one or all three.

Looks like harvested way early.

Well I smoked 3/4 of a .5 gram joint and I am pretty high. Not a stoned high but a head rush high. Been over fifteen minutes now (I think, high and not watching time) and I am still at full effect. Hopefully it lasts long.

Harvested at 9 weeks 2 days. It had the biggest bud out of 10 plants and the with the hair color turning dark red/brown I figured it was over done.

Was pressed for time to set up the new system so there is no way I could have dragged it out any longer anyway. Sure will help me through to the next harvest. Will probably use it for wake and bakes, pretty uplifting and motivating.

Good light intensity? 9 weeks of 12/12 should look beefier than that.

i agree with the picking too early and possibly the light intensity as well

the pictures look like you got buds. buds are really just flowers stacked on top of flowers. my guess is that it was too hot and gave you airy buds, what was the environment like.

Common misconception. It's not the hairs(pistils) you want to focus on to see if it's done but the trichomes.. Your hairs could turn dark brown / red, and contract, and you might still have 2 - 3 weeks left. You can't judge based on the hairs.. Yep, you cut way too early.

What age did you take them down at

The buds are mostly pistils when they are starting to form before the calyxes swell up so maybe it was harvested too early..?

well ya obviously u dont go by pistols but by the trichs but u still know if u have a ton of white hairs and no bud they arent ready yet lol

Or on the flip side you could have a ton of bud and no hairs and it's still need 1.5-2 weeks..

picked way to early.. is all.. they prolly dont smell to great either lol. maybe some hay smell .. atleast 2-3 weeks early.. sorry bro, that sucks.. i have done it .. alot have done this before.. just next time. grab yourself a microscope.. atleast now u know.. so next grow. this strain can go 2-3 weeks longer.. and then u will be able to see if its a keeper or not.. when u pick early.. the bud isnt as stinky.. the calyxs didnt have time to swell so it looks like a big nug of hair.. sucks too because that bud looks like it had alot of potential

^^^^^i agree with most everybody here..it strikes me as a sativa that needed more than 63 days..some can go 100!

never go by pistil color..you gotta check trichs hands down.
