Of the three spectrums, which would you say is the most like the ones growing under sun?
The led's seem to have added a lot of curl almost looking like curled parsley

The Amare Monos showed the biggest, least curled leaves. Should be able to tell by the pics but i can take single letti close ups if you want?
From vegging pot plants i notice they can only get so big in the 6" pott then all the leaves become very small as it gets older & caps out on branching, leaves+ roots. Then the leaves grow & stay small until i transplant then they explode. So I'm hoping that using bigger potts from the rip next time will help with the leaf size more as well as not cutting 3/4 off the roots before transplanting. Assuming they need the bigger pott for bigger leaves & total weight. I think they do. They also need adequate spacing. Like, just touching. Mine were cramped together. Potts touching. Not like the pics i showed recently where i spread them apart to put a tape on them for true size.
But ultimately, i do believe turning on & dimming the COBS - adding that 3-35k in a soft amount to the Monos, It will provide the best available spectrum i have on hand besides my Bar-6 LUV which includes the 380nm range.
Both the Primary Whites & HydroSlut showed allot of that rippled effect. Although if the size is still there i believe that just may equate to more nutritional food because of its density. Sure, letti is mostly water but you get my pint right? They stand tall crinkled & are wide & verry Full.
Gotta eat them to say but they look very Scrumptious in comparison to the bigger, longer, wider, flatter leaf of the Amare Monos. But idk what the letti should look like really. My sun ones took an outdoor beating.

And have they tested good led lettuce for nutritional value vs T-5 yet? Because they are broad, tall & dense. That must mean something, no?

Just pruned, watered & ate my outdoor lettuce. Tastes horrible. Yuck man. Need to be flushed??? Not ready? Leaf was sitting on top of soil with EWC, Bat poop,ect.. in it???
Wanted to take all good pruning & add to my Veggie shake in the blenda but tossed it all in trash.

The Outdoor lettuce does not seam as appealing as the led lettuce imo but they may have allot to do with partial light. Idk cuz the sun DLI vs 300ppfd artificial leds using limited spectrum is way less DLI then that of the sun. So Should more then even out on the suns behalf theoretically, idk!20200527_095438.jpg20200527_095446.jpg20200527_114600.jpg20200527_114624.jpg20200527_114517.jpg

2 plants was 3 units under T5. Verifiable by brother @Evil-Mobo

First off, I'd like to say Thanks To OHD for taking the initiative & sending me the lettuce, documenting what he can while inviting others to try. Putting up this thread was big n I feel it is more important then many Canna-Growers give it credit honestly. Long time Veggie, herb growers know have stuck to mh, hps & t-5 for a long time. Some went burples leds & that's cool to, but the right combo of the x2, is where its at i think, broad too. He did not like his white led lettuce but I'm digging mine (had x9w of covered Purple HD, led bulbs)-(x2 blew out already, lol!)
Mind you in these pics the white LED lettuce got the all x4 up-potted. There are a few up-potted in the mix of the HydroGrow, Burple (x1) & the Amare Monos (x2)

Ok, so IMO LED is working pretty good. Results bearing differently then I'd have expected. And of course at very low wattage as is the LED way.
I see where there could be a lil spectrum tuning to get it where it competes with T-5 though. Pretty sure ill have that down for you next round & will have gone 1 gall potts instead of 6" . My bad.
Some are a little wilty in the pics, they dry fast. Looks like the small potts had enough food in the ManMade soil using Grean Bicycles Ammendment to make it through the run!
That's important to know & have tested on veg too. Same deal, lasts long time like lovin.
Can only imagine if they Got Their "Happy Endings Tea", that probably would have made a difference, being in these lil potts n all.
Here you are, need to do big pictures to explain or label each. I know it sux.

Not T-5, But not bad right? Low wattage, just testing.
Lets Do it again!!! You got me hooked now & can't get busted for to many Letti:weed:. Thats a Lettuce leaf BTW!

Hey folks! Quick up-date on my led Letti experiment. OHD was very right about white leds so i made a slight change to the spotlights + Stoplight set-up by adding 9w of diffused Purple bulbs from HD. They do not include wavelengths needed to assist i don't think. But what the heck. I feel they helped increase the size of the leaves a little.
The spectrum doing the best IMO is the Amare Monos & i recently kicked on the uvb full time. Unfortunately i ran out of the right soil by planting the outside letti fist & the Amare plants are stuck in small potts for now. X2 of them are in 1 gall. Though. Same with the HGL letti.
But the Spot-lights (last week switched the 3k center bukb for this funky led winged thing from WallyWorld) are all in one gall.
Hopefully i csn transplant the ones that need it soon.

@Stephenj37826 , I continue to hear you recommending straight 4K white for growing lettuce. Would you be interested in engaging this topic and throwing your hat in the ring against me armed with a T5 and Brother @hybridway2 with his led spectral juggling act in a little 3-way head to head lettuce grow off? We are using dirt too so any office corner would suffice. :peace:

You may need to school me on the seeds to buy. Got a 4x4 set up now with the hlg 225 for flowering hemp on an experimental 18/12 flower cycle. I'll transplant them this week and start doing updates on the youtube channel. I'll try my best to do a lettuce grow as well.

The Grand Rapids in this pic is what Hybrid and I are running. Really looking forward to seeing how you do on the lettuce front.
Any ETA on the "Spectrum Snob" boards? :peace:

So, its tough to say any of this is 100% because the test should be done again with more strict guidelines followed by me. Got sick n fell off for a few weeks.
The HGL / RGB spectrum made very full & dense letti. Had the most crinkles or wrinkly edges on the leaves & density to the head itself. Im suprised because that's about 73% red (660nm) fixture with little 730/far-red (about 2-5%) but it's there.
The Amare Monos created what was probably closest to the outdoor letti. I think. That was an experimental spectral selection compared to what I'd guess to be optimal. Which would have been the Monos as they were & the Cobs turned on but dimmed very low to sunny up the White/Burple of the monos.
The "Diffused + Lensed" White Spot lights + Shop-Light coupled with the 9w of diffused Purple bulbs. Did quite well actually, especially for lacking Far-Red, 730nm or N/IR. After seeing OHD's White led letti, running my own sort've (we used different tech) think i may have the cure. As stated before in regards to our Girls, DIFFUSION.
Some sort of cover over the diodes if they are densly packed. I recommend 50-70% frosted covering. If a QB style light the bigger board, lower wattage models like the QB-120 or something like that where the diodes are spread far apart would be my choice. Or the frosted cover/sheet dropped 1.5" below the diodes of a denser diode QB.
Same would apply to Cobs.
Drop a touch of 730nm & i bet the "White, Diffused, N/IR added" led would do a great job!
Honestly i feel the same thing applies to our girls when using Todays Plain White Leds.20200601_173845.jpg20200601_173611.jpg20200601_173306.jpg20200601_173725.jpg20200601_173701.jpg20200601_173755.jpg20200601_173814.jpg20200601_172916.jpg20200601_173032.jpg20200531_215821.jpgVery Tasty. I was trippin tasting the dirty leaf during prunning. This Lettuce is Bomb! Mad heads texting awesome reviews. Even dropped x3 on my Grumpy Neighbor. LOL! My girl n i Did a ring n run at night n left them on the stoop. Haha!

I would like to challenge any and all here on RIU that are growing with cobs to grow a few heads of lettuce under their lights.
Come on guys and gals, I know you have some extra rockwool cubes, rapid rooters, germination mix and all that laying around. Grab yourself a pack of bib or romaine lettuce on your way out of Wally World and sprout a few up so the rest of the growing word can see how well / if cobs are up to task for food production.
Let's just see if cob can do it start to finish :hump:
So I finally have my entry ready for the contest lol not too late am I? Only took me four years

Are you ready to hop in on this one yet Stephen?
Would love to see GML play along too... This is all in the name of science and R&D of course :peace:
