I understand that but what no one else seems to take into consideration is this was 30 years ago, therefore my current opinions on Angola would be based on google and the other shit spilt out to paint a picture of the place.

Go there and you will know what it is like, search the internet and you will know what someone else wants you to think of the place.

Get it now?
Yep, I get it.

Wow...such insight of a 40-50-year old veteran of this world with foreign covert affairs combat action.

Thats your assumption not mine, I was a young man forced into military service and tasked with a responsibility that many if not all of us did not understand at all until much later in life.

If you are expecting insight from me for your own purpose then you will wait a long time.

I don't think your "insight" will benefit me very much.

And you can't even form an opinion about a country you supposedly put your life on the line defending, even if it is regarding the biggest conflict of the latter part of the 20th century (post wwII). I would expect that someone who was in special ops in the 80's would have some POV worth expressing regarding having served combat time in the Cold War, but no - you have nothing to say. So, you attack me for asking for your opinion. Brilliant.

At least I do my homework, and would actually KNOW what I am saying before asserting that I am a 40-50 y/o Special Ops veteran.

You're a really bad student then, so let me educate you.....I am not Angolan, I did 2 years service in the latter part of the 80's in the SADF. 8 months spent in the Caprivi strip in the old SWA and beyond. The cold war had nothing to do with this, not everything that happened before 1990 was attuned to the cold war, I suggest you look into the real reasoning behind the cold war. We happily accepted CIA as well as KGB reps into our weapons programmes and biological weapons programs, we were developing race specific biological weapons for non whites which the Americans wanted to use in places like S.America. Russia set the pace in the cold war not the US. You narcissistic Americans always think you were on top. We also had and still do have intrinsic ties to the Mossad and Israeli defense force.

Again I will repeat that it was many years ago so my opinions on Angola would be based on experiences of almost 30 years ago now and having not gone back since what would my opinion be based on????? ~ exactly what I said.....google searches, if that does not add up then I feel sorry for you!!

PS. I live half way round the world now so that reinforces my lack of current knowledge of Angola other than the internet.

You have assumed I am Angolan, you have assumed I was part of a secret war that somehow had everything to do with the cold war even though I have explained to you that I was a young man thrust into military service and then finding myself in a border war, I NEVER said I was special ops, YOU assumed that, my saying it was a silent secret war was because we officially in the eyes of the world had stopped countering insurgents on the old SWA/Angolan border but we secretly continued up until 1991~that is the SADF not me personally, I had done my duty already.

The whole point of this argument was that you were talking shit about Afghanistan based on stories you heard from a ex soldier implying that the 3rd world has nothing but sand and a lack of modernism and I am telling you that that is not true, my personal experiences in Angola serving in the SADF and later my travels through most of the African sub continent counter that, of course they are not as jacked as western countries but remember most of these countries were colonies so they had built every concievable convenience that they would have encountered back home. Since then things have gone down hill but they still exist. Ever heard of the term TIA.....more homework.

So you state that you have DONE your homework and you KNOW what you are talking about but all I see is another uninformed American who thinks he knows about the world based on what his century old corrupted country feeds him including your education.

Now you claim you do your homework but I can tell from what you have said that you are bluffing, you want me to think you know but I can see right through you....hell I have spent years in Africa but I ask you if you have HONESTLY ever been anywhere besides your beloved US or a country on it's borders?

I speak from personal experience, what do you have?

Actually don't bother, you are not worth my time anymore

You have presented absolutely nothing that cannot be learned by reading about the Angolan Civil War... the SADF was never "silent" about what it was doing...so, I highly doubt that anyone that had served in that conflict would say "silent." And the world knew the SADF was there until '91, good try.

And you sure make a lot of assumptions about what I know...and even what I have said (which you are also wrong about).

Good try, though. It was better than your other replies, except for all the attacks. For my money, you are the son of man that served in this conflict and have some sort of empowered opinion (albeit ill-defined and inarticulate), but little factual knowledge about the conflict in general, as evidenced by your half-assed reply laced with attacks, and insinuations.

Just because I am American doesn't make me stupid, or ignorant. Nor does it make you any more knowledgeable in any way shape or form regarding this conflict (as exhibited by your posts). Get off your high (no, I don't mean stoned, I mean arrogant) horse and welcome humility into your life some wonderful day.

Seriously, reading his posts I cant help but think of Tropic Thunder:

Cody:"That's a pretty cool sidearm you got there. What is it?"
Four Leaf Tayback:"I don't know what it's called. I just know the sound it makes, when it takes a man's life."
