Air cooled hood question

Just a quick question can I suck the cold outside air through my cooltube or will the frigid cold air crack the bulb when it heats up?

It won't crack it but it will decrease it's performance. HPS bulbs need to get warm enough to work proper. That's what I was told, not sure if it's true.

What I plan on doing is sucking the outside air through the cooltube and exhausting it out an old dryer vent in the basement!

a tent, room, closet?
Not sure how cold it gets there i'm in NY so cold nights. Are you using a carbon filter?

It's a 4x4x80 tent with a 1000 watt cooltube and a genesis hps bulb and a 460cfm inline fan and I used insulated ducting for my intake and exhaust

yeah, most people suck air from the outside of the tent thru the cooltube and vent to outside. if you ever want to add CO2 to your tent, you'd have to do something like that. you don't affect the air inside the tent as it's kinda like a closed loop system.

If you only have 1 tent in the room and are using a cooltube and 440 cfm fan you shouldn't need cool air from outside. Also a 1000 watt bulb and ballast puts out almost as much heat as a 1000 heater. Venting it in another room will cut your heating cost a little and add humidity of it is too dry. Not sure if you are in a legal state, but, one thing cops look for is ice build up around exhaust vents,a tell tale sign of a grow room.
