True Gypsy, but when you've got a very small area in which to grow and the heat from the HIDs kill your plants.... that's awfully expensive too. ;)

I never said they don't have their place Kat..

I am just talking about efficiency... ;-)

The dollar figure in the end is important to me... I want dank, but I want it cheap... that's just me though...

Oh! and I would go with a 35 watt HPS before a 35 watt CFL ANY DAY...

Watt per watt, HID has more lumens... and the small ones are not that hot at all...

Get 1000 watts of cfls and it will be a scorcher too...;-)

Sorry Gypsy, I was just "adding" to the conversation, not arguing w/you. My tone may not be great tonight; one of those days. Once we're able to buy a house (should be in the next year, probably sooner!), I'll have an actual grow room instead of needing to use a tent in the dining room. Then I'll be getting an HID setup. Till then, I'm stuck with what works best for this setup. I don't want the expense nor the hassle of 10,000 lights! I know all about wanting things to be cheap!

You know, I saw a 150 watt HPS the other day on eBay, and I thought about getting it, but decided to ask around first. I certainly don't want to buy something and find it's a waste of money! (Cheap, remember? LOL) It was $80-ish, with a reflector and all that jazz. Is this worth it, or a waste?

Oh I know...

I just get a little frustrated cause HID vs CFL is a CHOICE...

They make small HPS lights.. and there is also the ventilation issue...

If you vent properly, you can use an HPS in any place you can use a CFL...

It doesn't HAVE to be 1k watts...

I am not sure if you have seen the tent I built...

20"x36"x 54" and I never raised the light all the way up...

and I used a 600 HPS in there with NO HEAT ISSUES.... but I had proper vent...

I don;t want to hijack the thread with this cfl vs hps...

But anyone using CFLs are doing so by choice... THERE ARE OPTIONS...

CFLs are just cheap to buy... and with an internal ballast, most people can just screw it in... it's a cheap and convenient initial investment...

But like I said... 50 watts of HPS will bet 50 watts of CFL to a pulp... with about the same heat... but way more light... ;-)

Man, I wish I had room to vent an HID. The little space that I have is taken up entirely by the grow tent that I'm using. Once I move into my house, I'll have an entire room, hehe. Gonna get exciting, you'll see.

They are getting pretty dense, and sticky as hell!

The smell is actually pretty toned down. There is a faint smell of it growing in the house, but if you didn't know what was going on, you would have no idea what it was. It's kinda of a sweet smell.

If you shake the trees a little bit, you can really smell the dank.

Well, this strain is supposed to be an 8 week flower time. So, I believe I'm going to start flushing thursday, which will be exactly 5 weeks, since hydro finishes earlier.

They should be ready somewhere around 7 weeks, if my research is correct. Any advice?

Bro... these plants are nowhere near ready...

Sure Hydro is supposed to be faster... but you are underlighted... which slows the process down...

I could be wrong... but those skinny leafed Sativas take 12-14 weeks top finish under HID...

You can chop whenever you want, they're yours... but pot plants look like they are dying (cause they are) when the buds are mature...

Your plants still have quite a bit of weight to put in...

I'd feed for another week and see...

My guess is to start your flush in 2 weeks...

but I would have to see more pics to show the trend...

But Bro...

your buds look young and like they have some growing to do still...

remember ... up to 25% of the weight is packed on the last few weeks...

Ok, I'll give 'em some more time.

I'm entering into unknown territory now, since my last grow never made it past the balls, haha!

Anyway, thanks for the input bush...

I have no idea exactly what to look for when it comes time to flush, so I'm relying on you guys to help me out.

I will be posting pics every couple of days from now on, just so I can keep myself at ease.

Thanks again!!!
