after germination?

ive recently germinated 2 whitewidow seeds and after lots of reading got lots of conflicting stories of what to do next.
ive mixed 50% compost/perlite for 1 pot and soked 20minites before droping the seed in.
the other pot just compost and droped the seed in then give a little water.
ive 2 small freezer bags over the tops of the pots with gaps in the sides so not air tight.
i put my 250w hps roughly 2 1/2 foot from the pots. now the questions is how long should i leave the light on, is the light close enough.
when should i expect the the seeds to break the soil, or will they evan break the soil using these methods.
its my first grow bongsmilie +rep

You germinated them first, right? Mine usually break the soil in 2-3 days. Make sure you remove your humidity baggies (hehe good idea there btw) as soon as the babies push through. Oh and be sure to keep them moist, but NOT SOAKED. Too wet for too long equals rotted seedling.:peace:

+rep thanks for the reply, does it matter how long i leave the lights on and is 2 1/2 foot distance good for a 250w hps

for germination, i would highly recomend some cool white floros, or CFL's #1 better light spectrum. #2 you will get MUCH more usable light to the seedlings because you'll be able to have your lamp right on top of them (like 3 inches away) #3 250w to germ 2 seeds is a huge waste of electricity. once your plants are fairly well established, (5 or 6 sets of leaves), if you still feel the need to use your hps, i would go 18 to 24 inches away. i use 18/6 light schedule.

btw i think i could easly fit another 2 plants in there. wich is a easy plant to grow with good strong buds :D

Turn the light on once they break the surface, i use a 600 hps from seedling to harvest mate. No need to mess about with different lights, keep it simple.

Dude on my first grow I was scared to ruin my seeds and I had lots of questions. Im no way near knowledgeable as 99.9% of the other forum members, only suggestion I can make to you that would help you out is read this --> https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/937-how-grow-marijuana.html <--- I did and MAN!!! was it helpful. Then if you have any further questions I would peek @ this --> http://www.greenmanspage.com/guides/ <-- from time to time. Just remember grow is different. Secondly this so called hobby can consume you and become expensive!!!! Good Luck!

8-10 is a good distance, I actually just had this conversation. A buddy of mine actually sent me a really good lighting chart today.. Not sure where his source was or how to post the one he sent.. and not going to post his name, as I'm sure he doesn't want a shit load of requests for it in his inbox tomorrow, but maybe he'll see this and post it for you guys too) and i think 5 inches is the closest you should go, and I think even 18 was too far.. mine is now around 8 as well.

8 inches with a 250? On seedlings? I have my 600 a good bit further than that. And DO NOT have any problem with stretching.
