I was in black schools and white schools

When you go to a class, there are 30 kids.

and the rest are in the middle.

A nation of B and C students,

A black C student can't run

A black C student can't even be
the manager of Burger King.
Meanwhile, the white C student

How is affirmative action equality when the the government and the private sector are required by law to treat people differently?

Well most of the time this is cited, it is misused...it is supposed to help people, but nothing ever does...not really

The Truth is Bush was a C student, white, and President.

do you guys even know how affirmative action programs work? or are you guys the type of uninformed dolts who think that minorities can't commit hate crimes?

i thought ronbots loved discrimination, they use it all the time when talking about civil rights.

affirmative action protects all groups, not just minorities.

affirmative action in general doesn't bother me a whole lot. i know why we have it and what might happen if we didn't have it.

on the other side though, i do want to remind everyone of the new haven fire department incident a few years ago. the department completely scrapped a promotion exam because zero blacks and only two hispanics would have been promoted to captains or lieutenants based on the results. the white firefighters who WOULD have been promoted based on the results of the exam sued for discrimination and won. it was a supreme court case. the city said they scrapped the exam because they were worried about lawsuits from minorities.

i'll be the first to say that if my house is on fire, i want the guys who show up to be commanded by the best guy for the job, not some guy who got his job because someone was afraid of being sued.

i realize that this case is not the norm, but it's important to point out both ends of the spectrum.

Very much agreed, Total Head. Affirmative Action is predicated upon the idea that each minority has the same percentage of competent individuals as any other. In large groups, this is probably close to true. But trying to push the tyranny of ratio into very small populations is answering one injustice with another. Thing is, deviations from statistics are easy to spot and to politicize. If a boss doesn't wanna hire a black guy cos there's white guys better experienced why should he feel compelled. Same as a black boss, why should he HAVE to hire white guys?

Any sort of a quota system is wrong, like our Government proposed a 30/70 female to male ratio rule for elections... It simple means we at some point can't choose a man that's better for the job cos "equality" says we're to take a woman.

We keep hearing from you how everyone else hasn't a clue how affirmative action works, why don't you enlighten us?

If your father runs the corporation you can be black, white, yellow or brown and be a D student and you will run the company. Had there never been a George SR in office there would never have been a George Jr as president. We are not racist we are old boy politics be it private sector or not. My son was a D student, sports got him his degree and sports will get him a fifty dollar an hour job. Not always what you know rather than who you know.
