Using a "polarized" plug would not have caused that. If the hood uses a "non-polarized" plug, that means that it is not polarity sensitive and the positive and negative sides could be connected either way.
If the plug was "polarized", that would mean it was supposed to receive a plug that had a set negative and positive side.
Thus saying, if you took a "polarized" plug and plugged it into a "non-polarized" receptacle, it wouldn't make a difference.
His hood was probably shorted.

I set mine to 24/7, but if you don't have that setting or you just don't wanna use it, salad greens works great too.
Just make sure to completely turn the pump off once you get a good amount of roots in the water.

yeah, if you consider $5 a waste? 100w CFLs are about $4 each. and my hood is hanging so secure- you could easily set a ten pound weight on it.

to help. if you were to spend $200 on an aerogaeden and use it for cloning --THAT would be a waste!

Hello RIU aerogardeners. I have a quick question and am wondering if anyone else has encountered this, but first i want to say thanks to RIU for all the information provided on this forum. this has been by far the most necessary tool in my two grows.
my question is this: in both of my grows thus far i've encountered a white crusty build up on the surface of the reservoir. the best way i can describe it is that it looks like battery corrosion. i covered the surface with foil, covering up all of the unused holes, but i noticed that moisture builds up in between the foil and the surface. the moisture dries in some places creating the crust. my assumption is that it's the nutrients being left behind as the water dries off. is there any way to prevent, avoid, or stop this? would a liquid nutrient prevent this from happening? i'm using the regular aerogarden nutrients and i premix them in water before adding them to the reservoir. could it possibly be because i left the aerogarden pump on for the entire grow (i know better than to do this, but at the time i didn't have an airstone for circulation)? because with it pouring water into the empty holes, it could easily be creating condensation in between the foil and the surface.

thanks for all the replays bout the figure 8 cord, ill make sure to get a no-polarized that has the ()() shape not the []() shape, and ill be doing this soon as my roots are well established already. My new problem as of a couple of days after sacrificing the bad WW baby, is that my leafs seem to be dryin out. not liek their turnin brown like over nutes cuz ive barely used any nutes, maybe a half of a small AG tab, a quorter every week. So i read i could be under nuteing them? does anyone habe any suggestions? like i said the leafs juss look to be dryin out evn tho they stay green they dry out startin fromt he tips and they dry out to a crunchy like state. has anybody ever seen this? please help!!

i have clones that i just started with an aero grow should i keep the lights on for 2 weeks 24 hours or 20 hours on 2 weeks .

Use liquid, mine took off when I changed to good nuts, the AG tabs caused a white crusty stuff in mine too. I ended up getting mine to a foot or so tall and over 14 inches wide, then moved them to a grow tent to flower. The issue I had was the stalks became so large and the roots started to get larger than the plastic on the AG pods. So I had to cut the pods off and moved them to the tent. During my AG grow I used 3 shop reflectors with (2) 6500k cfls and 1 2700k. Also, go easy on the nutes since they are in water all the time and as they grow they can suck up half the AG water supply in a day and over time you can get concentrated nutes in there.

I do have that root growing, but can't figure out how to turn that pump off, is there another attachment that I will need to purchase for my Aerogarden. Many thanks for your reply.
