My AG pump filter was root-rotted quite nicely...what can i use as a replacement?

Can I just by generic "aquarium filters" or something at walmart?

FF jus stop postin in here man, shit is annoying, thats exactly what im talk about, your trying to candy coat what you have said, or what you were trying to do, but that last post sums it up, you needa respect peoples method of growing, callin him a noob, grow up man, seriosuly haha, who really says that

and leova, you dont really need the AG pump since you add the Air stone

I guess...so I can just leave the pump "uncovered then", with no little white filter-y thing attached?

Could I use a piece of sponge, just cut it real small & thin? It'd come from a piece of the same sponge I plan to use to hold the seeds in the AG pods...

Also SICC, how does the Airstone replicate the pumps' effect? Is it just that the air bubbles splash water up into the air, creating a pseudo-misting effect?

So I am charging the camera so no pics ATM, but what Im hoping are my two little girls are about 10" tall now with lots of good secondary growth coming from the nodes. I have done some rigging so that I can suspend the AG hood, but in the space I have that really only gives me maybe 6-8". Should I go ahead change them over to the 12/12? Im too lazy, hot, and out of pot right now to go back and find how much more they grow during flowering, but would like to maximize what little space I have.
I've learned a ton, and either from this tread or from links in this thread, so thanks again all, good karma thoughts going out to you!

Haven't checked this thread in a while... I see someone exploded because the AG isn't the best way to grow if you want huge commercial yields.

I skimmed through a page or two..

There are tons of other options out there. Nobody ever said the AG is the best, or the cheapest. Nobody has been led to believe something that was false. Nowhere has anyone said anything about how much you will yield.... For a novice grower you are worried about an ACTUAL harvest, not HOW MUCH or HOW AWESOME. Number one priority is to learn how to do it first, then perfect your methods. The AG is nice and compact, much easier to work with than a huge 10 gallon tub with 6 gallons of water in it. Plus you don't have to ever even question your handiwork.. its already premade for you, without having to buy shit from a hydroponic store.. alot of people are turned away because of that, I know I was when I started up.

The AG should be seen as a learning tool and a gateway into growing, if I could do it all over again I would still have purchased my AG, dont regret it at all. I don't have much use for it now, but I learned so much using it that I would not have learned anywhere else and that is what makes it worth the money if you do buy it.

Alot of people get aerogardens as gifts, so buying a few extra cfls and an extra air pump isn't really that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

If you are truly concerned with how much you are spending, you probably shouldn't be looking into an aerogarden to begin with you should do some soil.

Hydro is more expensive just by nature, so the aerogarden only further exemplifies that.

I know for a fact that I would not have even thought about building my own hydroponic setup on my own without really knowing how it works.

That is why I bought the AG, I know its something thats is proven to WORK, The fact that it is a commercially sold product gives consumers a sort of mental safety net, and as a beginner it has everything you need to get started right out of the box.

No hydro stores or shady online places.

Not proven to be the best, but its a proven method that has results. You can grow MJ in an AG and yield a respectable amount.

And, yes, you can also spend the same amount of money on another setup and yield much more, but its going to be alot more work and you will have a much higher chance of failure doing things on your own the first time.

I can't say it enough, the AG is a wonderful learning tool and it has taught me so much.. and I decided to spread the knowledge that I have learned with other people.

Some people just have a real problem when things are made easier for newer people.

People really need to stop trying to force their methods onto other people.

Yea, I would definitely throw them into flower now if you haven't already.

right now you are looking at a 20"-30" plants at the end of flowering.

If you don't have room for that you need to top your plants or find a new place to grow these plants that has the space you need.

Nice, I Think I may be topping the one, prolly have room for a 24" plant but I did put them into the 12/12. Now I just wait and hope they are girls!
Thanks for summing up nicely also as Mr. Alex said. I'll admit, as soon as I had the AG out of the box, I felt a little dilly for not having thought of it that way. Likewise, mixing and understanding nute solutions. I stated before, Space is my limiting factor for now, but thanks to what I have been able to pick up thought this and hands on ( We did save one of my plants from some nasy nute burn at the start! ) I am ready to rock my own design. Thanks agaon and peace all!

aww Mr Alex you do know your have broken the forum rules and if I was what you say I could report it and you would be banned right.Lurk I know you said you only read a litle but did you see the part where I was explaining that the AG is a more exspensive less perfect way to learn.. here it is. I was saying for aero learners who are new and have small budgets there are much better ways to go. Thats all and it kind of got some panties in a wad by some well panty wodders. I suggested other ways that would be better to leartn and use to get into aeroponics and again some criers cried. I submitted to not offering help or advise to the AG crowd as they seem to be a little high strung and not really into learning aerponics as to more wanting to just have something do it for them.Soas I relented if thats all you want and you got money to burn then this is for you i was directing toward those who wanted to get into real aero and the best bang for the buck crowd and I think I stepped on some rich kids toes so i apologize to them and hope they can survive. Good grows

You are preaching to the wrong audience.

If you want to try to dissuade people from buying an aerogarden, don't come into the aerogarden forum that is full of people that already HAVE aerogardens cracking skulls saying how much you think it sucks.

Just because you don't think its the best doesn't give you the right to force other grow methods onto people.

If it was called EcoGarden or some shit that was advertised to be a viable and cheap solution and it really wasn't then you would have all the right in the world to tell people that.

You are trying to compare apples to apple juice concentrate in a bottle. In the end you have a glass of apple juice.

You can make apple juice out of the apples, yes. Or you can just buy the bottled stuff and pour it right out.

The hand squeezed apple juice you can make could be the best shit in the world, 3 times better than the bottled shit, but it can go the exact opposite way too if you don't do it right.

Some people just like simplified stuff, obviously if you do it yourself there is more room for customization and optimization.

You need to accept it and move on.

Mr I Can Do That For Half
I prefer simplified stuff so thats why i offerd it as another way for aero as the aerogarden is just simple put a good way to learn to grow mary jane aeroponically as its not the same as if you used a real aeroponic setip but your right if people spent the money without even doing the basic research then they might as well use it but I would advise growing spices and herbs in it so you at least grow what it was meant to grow and learn that part of growing if your not truely learning aero ponic ganaj growing. I let it go and will buy stock in aerogarden inc and collect my fat check lol Good grows.. those who wish to learn true ganja aeroponics check out the other aero threads you will learn alot more there...Im done those who want to throw an insult at e please pm it to me and be man enough to do so direct and not in the thread.

Hey guys, I've found the best way to deal with a troll like FF is to simply ignore them :)

let them post whatever garbage they want, as long as they dont get responses they won't be happy

wont a timer turn off the aerogarden pumps?
only if you plug the pump into the timer :p

Personally, I'd say plug the AG pump into the wall, let it go 24hrs/day until there are decent roots, then turn it off completely. No timers, no worry :))
