Aerogarden going great...Got some good questions though

How do I attach pictures of my setup? I want to know if they look big enough to start flowering. The aerogrow lid has been raised one notch. If someone can tell me how to attach pics, then I can show everyone their size. The only thing I see is a way to insert an image with a LINK but my pics are stored on my computer...How do I put that in as a link? Thanks for everyone's input and help...

My Question:
How much bigger should I let them get before I start flowering? The lid has been raised one notch...













Sorry for the poor images but the only camera I have right now is a the webcam in the laptop...
I am also probably going to thin out this bunch by removing a plant or two... I want to wait till flowering so I dont take out any or all of my females...Is this a wise decision? Thanks again everyone.

P.S. The plant on the far left is the oldest by a few weeks...It is a lowrider/dwarf plant.

Would you take a look at the pics I have posted and tell me how much longer I should wait/how much taller I should let them get before switching to flowering light schedule?

Anytime would be a good time. If you want them bigger, wait longer. It won't hurt to flower now, just makes smaller plants.

You don't run your AG with your lid open all the time do you? It's a bad thing to let light in your res.

I only opened the res. tray to try and get a photograph of the root matrix that is down there. Im proud of how massive it is, but the shot of the open tray doesnt show them. It stays shut all the time. I even covered the open/unused pod holes with a milk cap and a prescription bottle cap (which fits perfectly when put in upside down).
If you look at the 2nd picture I have posted, this is the most I close the lid cause of the pump lines. I've checked and no light gets in. Very little anyways.

Also, I cant see this, but I am sure that the roots have started to grow underneath the supports which hold up the pump and the lid of the res. They are growing under the supports and pushing the top open!

This is a cord I found for an old laptop I dont have anymore. It was the first half of the power supply box used to plug in a computer. It didnt have the fig. 8 configuration so I just carved out some plastic notches with a pocket knife. Check it out. Fits and works perfectly!

Sounds good on the door being closed. Should do just fine.

My roots grew all over the place. They were coming out of my res by the time I was harvesting. I'm sure yours will be fine.

Nice work on the cord. Always good to be creative, makes things a whole lot cheaper.

I would prolly throw those into 12/12 in a couple days max, i understand your not using autoflowering plants so when you switch those might outgrow the aerogarden so you want to try and keep your plants stout and bushy, but then again it's all up to you, it's better to keep them smaller so it is less of a hassle at the end.

yea that one in the middle is growing like a mfer. I just pruned the top off but it is still too freakin high....different strain than the rest. the rest are bushy, like you recommend. The one on the far left is a lowrider/dwarf strain meant to grow small and bushy. I have a couple, which you cant see well in the pic, that are very small, just a few weeks old...i was hoping they could get a bit bigger first...but yeah, i think you are right....time to flower

And I think with careful pruning I can keep them bushy, but from what I understand, once flowering starts, ex-nay on the pruning...

OK. So I have switched over to flowering light schedule (12/12) exactly 1 week ago. I am getting a hell of a lot of growth and I need to be careful cause they are growing up into the lights when Im not looking.

Question here:

How long will I have to wait to start to see signs of flowering? It has been one week and all I can see so far is increased growth rate. When will the plants start to show thier sex, i.e. buds or flowers? How long before I begin to see the starts of buds or flowers? How many weeks? Anyone got a good Idea on this? Thanks.

So they have begun to show sex. I have 4 plants in the aerogarden. Make that 3. I have 3 plants growing now cause I pulled out one I definetly knew was a male. It had clover like little buds starting in the armpits...no hairs like the one has...I am positive this one was a male...and I have one that I am positive is a female. The other 2 are too hard to tell yet. After cutting the male out, I have begun to think of some questions:

1. The male plant I cut out...the stems left sticky residue on my fingers, and it smells really strong...Do males do this too, smell and produce sticky shit...It had no hairs and was producing the "clover" like, tri-budded little flowers. Does the fact that it smelled really skunky and was sticky, does this mean it could have been a hermaphrodite?
2. I cut the male plant out at the base of its stem. There was no way to get its roots out without damaging the rest of the plants. Will these roots that I left in the res...they are going to die...will they cause a problem for the rest of the plants...will the dying roots cause any toxicity to the other plants...if so...what do I do?
3. Now that that huge male is gone there is alot of room for the female to spread out...Do I need to do anything differently...Probably lessen the ammount of nutes I feed em...anything else...Do I need to reduce light. Previously, I added 5 cfls in addition to the aerogrow lights...is this too much?

also, I didnt want that big male I cut out to go to waste, so I ate the tops and a buch of leaves...it was spicy as hell! And I think Im getting high! It had the tri-tipped little flowers that are indicative of a male plant, but I think this guy had a bunch of THC in his system....is this possible?

I think they are all male except for one friggin plant! Man that sure is frustrating. All that hard work with the water, pruning nutes, everything wasted. I bought the seeds from an online seed bank. buydutchseeds.com. great site. Guess i just got unlucky when i picked the seeds to use.

I still have not had the above questions answered yet 1, 2, or 3. Can anyone help me with these questions?

4. Do the males produce any THC and if so, can they be smoked?

absolutely, get that shit out of there! i had teh same problem, after a couple days the leftover root/sponge mass was all white and nasty

You should be fine on nutes/water/lights, just make sure they dont over/under drink for the first few days and whatnot.

No idea about the males though...

I was so happy to get help when I first started, so I just pay it forward, and encourage others to do the same

So to be clear, you say I should get that sponge out of the pod, and Im guessing get all the roots I can manage to get with it, right? The only problem here is that this plant I took out, its old root system is completely entangled and meshed in with the rest of the root matrix in the res...Hopefully these roots under the water wont pose too much of a problem...But I will take the old sponge out of the pod, the one that has the root stub in it...this is what you suggest, I am I understanding you correctly?

I had to use a surprising amount of strength just to pull it up far enough to cut it off...there was no way I could just pull it out without pulling out the roots of every plant in that res. So I pulled it up out of the water, cut it off, pushed the remaining roots back underwater, and covered the empty pod with aluminum foil, so no light gets in. Can anyone foresee any problems here? Anything else I should do?

There's really not a whole lot you can do after that. Just get the roots out the best you can and go with it. H2O2 would probably help.
