I want to just switch from the aerogarden stuff (since i added the starting nutes) to something new. So do I still need to clean everything out? or can i just empty the reservoir and add new water then put in the new nutes when the time comes to add more?

if you are using different nutes, definitely. any mixing can unbalance certain nutrients.

if you were just switching plants and keeping the same nutes it may be ok, if they were young,

but really any changes in the resovoir or the contents should call for sterilization.

ive also read on other threads on this site that those aero nutes will caiuse some damage, so you may want to get off those asap

You should always clean it out everytime you change the water. Read somewhere to change it every two weeks. THe nutrient bottle recommended that as well.

It is creating the "green house effect" thats a good thing to have.

^My pictures are annoying as hell the way I uploaded them, sorry.
I see Ill need to buy a pump airstone and ph stuff. I might have ph strips for a pool do you think that will work and if that is good for monitoring it how do I actually go about changing it? The only nutes I can use are the aerogarden ones unless do you think I can find nutes similar to fox farms or any of the other ones mentioned on here at a store? Also I am getting some condensation on some of my domes is this a sign of overlighting?

I suggest getting rid of the tin foil and getting a proper set up with good air flow. Tin foil is horrible and does not help with reflection much at all. Check out some grow videos on VeohTV. Buy some Mylar.

Yeah I think the tin foil is retaining a lot of heat too so im gonna have to get some mylar. I dont think my seeds are going to sprout either they were really dried out so I think I might just scrap this batch get a new bag and find some new seeds then try out soil, clone that plant then put the clones into the aerogarden and try that. Im really new at this and I heard soil is better for beginners so ill probably try it I just need to read up a little.

dont give up hope yet friend!

some quality plants have come from seeds that have taken a week + to start.

if you do the germination in a paper towel, its really easy to check if they started or not. then just pop it in the foam thingy when you see the taproot starting to emerge!

give soil a whirl, but i would say to keep on with the aero!

didnt have any luck germinating in aerogarden with the aerogarden nutrients. used papertowel method.
haven't tried using real nutrients for germination yet.
go paper towel tho make sure it gets no light at all.

3 things a seed of any type needs: water , temp. , air.

Regular tap water is fine and has enough dissolved soilds in it to nourish the seed enough to sprout.

temp- cannabis germinates best at 78F. low temps delay germination, and high temps upset seed chemistry and can cause poor germination.

air- theres no photosynthesis so air is minimal, the seeds can get this from the water and atmosphere.

another tip would be to makre sure the paper towel is in a vertical position, like in a cup, so that the tap root is futher encouraged to grown downward.

Hey tribe, I switched from AG nutes to some other ones, and a I didn't sterilize the reservoir. I agree I should, but my plants don't seem too phased. You can definately grow more hardcore than myself, but I'm a minimalist, and the new nutes just browned one big leaf, which I snipped it off. All this talk makes me sound big, but really I'm just a brother trying to identify if my AG plants are male or female. Clearly Stortzbickel you are a veteran beyond me, and I am thankful for your presence and advice on the forum. But honestly, sometimes the talk here seems dire and intimidating, whereas myself and maybe alot of AG folk are gonna be more casual about their grow experience than other seasoned growers (at least I am), and from what I've found, almost nothing short of total negligence will kill these tough wonders. All that said, I love all the advice on how to improve my grow, but I hope you guys'd use a tone that'll help me understand how not fuck up the grow beyond repair.

Peace, Love, Unity, Respect.

thanks for the compliments pylon.

dont ever be afraid to ask to have something cleared up or anything like that.

the reality of it is- theres nothing too terribly complex going on, its more the terminology that becomes confusing.

anything you need cleared up , just ask and we can remove some of the jargon for ya.

theres nothing wrong with experimentation bro - so if you keep with the AG nutes and have success, let us know! your findings could save people some money. and if it kills your plants- well we will all learn from your experiment. there is no one specific way to go about things, especially in terms of the AG.

its all kind of like give and take. input what you can, and take everything you can from this community.

let us know where we can help!

Hey everyone, well I certainly would love some advice now :-|
My plants have proven to be girls, and they have some humble, but yummy looking buds flowering up top. But I have a few problems, the first is that it is getting really cold where I live, and there is no central heating, so there's nothing keeping the plants warm besides their light and shelter. Also, recently the leaves have been turning yellowish, some leaves are even withering. Is this normal during flowering? What can I do to make the plant healthier during this critical phase? I'd love any advice, but the simpler the better. In my situation it is very difficult to pick up special tools.

Take a look please

Honestly, I know I am the newbie on the block, so don't take this as a stab. But why the hell would you want to grow herb with this teeny tiny little hydro system? Unless you want bonsai buds, I fail to see the point. I'd rather spend $30 on an air stone, pump, and grab a five gallon bucket from my local bakery trash. Maybe it's just me, but I think you guys are throwing your money away.

we do it because its another way to grow. and some of us got a little extra cash to throw around at times. so why not, its somethin different and a new challenge,:joint::joint:

Yeah, and as someone who's always had (until now) terrible results with plants, this system was kind of like a launch pad. Plus, I do just want bonsai buds for my personal consumption. I've been pleased how small I've been able to keep my grow. Speaking of which... anyone know why my leaves are yellow :)

The system will not produce "bonsai buds" unless you stay with the original lighting. The bud mass and density has to do with the lights you are using more than anything else. Put an HPS or MH over an Aerogarden, and it does as well as anything else.
