Hey everyone , i just bought an ag and im new to this indoor stuff , im more of an outdoor person but i figured i would give this a shot why not keep myself busy over the winter , but any way i have one big question for anyone who could answer ...for those who are using those low watt hps lights (0-100watt) can you just unscrew the stock ones and screw in the hps lights in the same socket ? and if so wat watt should i go with? (without burning out or shorting out the entire system and i plan to use the figure plug as well) and if not do i need to get a ballast to run them ??....any other beginner info would be greatly appreciated...

thanks P.S. Hope someone can help me make this a good grow / experience and i hope to start soon so the sooner I get some help with this the sooner i can post a journal..thanks again
Here is your new best friend for a few weeks... GrowFAQ lol... then hits us back... no offense.. just keeping it real...lol...

Hi everyone! I'm new to RIU. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who contributes on this site. I'm currently growing an unknown strain that I got as a freebie from the doc in my aerogarden classic, and the thing is over 3 ft tall! It looks like a mini tree! lol:o I'm currently on day 38 of flower and have a few more weeks left. This is the furthest I've actually gotten in a "successful" grow. But yeah I'd like to apply for my aerogarden club membership! lol Peace! :weed:

AEROGARDEN GROW SHEET
:leaf: BY "SICC" :leaf:

light hours:

1. 27/0 for seedlings
2. 18/6 for vegging
3. 1212 for flowering

Grow Time:

3-4 weeks vegging
9-12 weeks flowering

Lighting:

Stock AG lights for vegging. Add additional CLF's, total of 8-12 should be added throughout the veg-flowering stages. Connect a figure 8 cord (found at radio shack, or PS2 cable) to a timer to control light schedual. you can also change the settings to tomatoes. Daylight, blue spectrum for veggings, and softwhite, red spectrum for flowering. Mix of two should be placed throughout grow. or you can invest in an HSP/MH to set up, cheaper and better, but either is good :-P

Nutrients:

Stock AG nuet tablets, 2 small tabs every two weeks, 1 big tab every two weeks. Or you can do 1 small tab every week for 8 weeks, last 2 weeks stop using tabs flushing before harvest. Dont using nutes until the plant is about 2 weeks old from the time the seeds were transplanted into the AG. Or you can use the Fox Farm line up, they have there own feeding schedule.

Preparation:

Fill to brim of AG, past the "fill to here" marker, once in flowering, the plants will triple in size and drink alot of water. Place and Airstone into AG, cover any unused grow spots, blocking any light from reaching the roots. Have a fan to keep rez water at a cool temp, and to strengthen the stem. A thermometer for proper temperature, and a PH tester. paper towel germination. Your plants will show sex after you put them into flowering, will show within the first month or about 14 days.

:leaf: END :leaf:

so thats it, this is what i have put together after a couple months of reading, reading, and more reading. I have not started my grow but will be up and running no later than the mid of December, NO LATER ;-). hopefully this will help alot of people who are intrested in the AG. I am personally going to use it because of how easy it is to set it up and use. "set and forget" haha. I can really care less at this point to how my results come out as long as i am able to grow, it would make me happy. And obvisouly down the line i will upgrade to a better set up, but as of now this is what im going to use.:-P
Again this is what i have put together from reading, so if you have any changes, better information or if you wante to add to this, please just quote it and add type away. thanks go's out to the A.G.E. Volcomi18. Korvette, Dank Dawson, DogTagz, GyspyBush and everyone else who supports the AG

EDIT: one more thing, reading the whole thread is the best way to learn, this is a good idea of what go's on, reading an putting it into your owrns words is the best way

Hey "SICC"
Awesome write-up man; it really does sum up the Aerogarden grows well. I use the tomato setting throughout the whole grow. When you said change to tomato, what setting are you changing from? Thanks man +rep.

thanks, when you use the figure 8 cord, u control the lights, so i was sayin just leave it on tomatoes, it will only affect the pump but even with the airstone you will be good

I am in week 6 of my grow after a couple of false starts. I am using the Fox Farm according to the chart I found somewhere on this website for Care and Feeding of the Aerogarden and I have got to tell you I ma rel happy with what I got going on.

Probably the only thing I do different is at the end of each week I drain the reservoir and refill with a completely my batch. What is not used immediately I use to top off the reservior over the week and then drain back into it. I get two things out of doing it this way. An idea of how much water the system is using and I dump the remaining and used liquid on the wife's house plants on the patio enbeknownst to hereand the are exploding.

I am going to follow the 12 week course to the letter and see what happens and leave the original thinking to others.

I am enjoying the process.

just got a new gourmet herb seed kit the other day, put in 7 seeds, and they're startin to poke the domes today. my question is, has anyone used the new AG pods? they don't have sponges in them, it's some sort of growing medium almost like cork that the seeds are imbedded in. let me know if this has hindered anyone's grows. it seems like you have to leave the seed on the surface of it b/c on the ones that i put my seed inside, they have not sprouted. and i have a plant coming out of the middle of my thyme. ( guess i didnt get all those imbedded seeds) :)

I like them much better than the sponges, which fall apart like cotton candy when I have to handle a wet one when checking to see if it's germed. Just be sure and slit them vertically down 1 side to the center (like when you cut an apple in half, but just cut to the center). It'll let the tap root out better. Put the seed just below the top of the grow medium and keep it dark til it sprouts..NOTE>Seeds germ in paper towels much, much quicker...
luck!!!!!!!
