Couple Questions for the experienced AG growers:

1) I'm growing the Top 44 strain from nirvanashop. They claim that from planting to actual harvest is 6-8 weeks. Any idea how long I should keep my grow periods going (ie. how long to vegg, how long to flower, etc.)

2) I'm on the AG deluxe. How do I set up the 12/12 light cycle for the grow period while keeping the water/nutrient pump going?

thanks in advance for you guys' help . . .

Those pictures are of the Pro200 and not the Deluxe version. The Pro200 version is better because it has the Adaptive growth intelligence that tells you when to change the bulbs, add nutrients, and add water. Also, Korvette is growing with a genetically engineered strain called 'Hijack' (I would love to get my hands on) which is half the reason his plants look so great. The aerogarden is probably capable of producing minimal bud with no added lighting, but it's stupid not to place additional compact fluorescent bulbs around the plant for best results.

Okay, on the second attempt to get my Aero Grow on line, first attempt faied to me fucking with chems, I now have 7 good strong seedingss that are living on the Tomatore setting and the recommended Fox Farm Nutes for heavy feeding.

QUestions I have are. Do I feed every week, Bi-weekly, what?

I also hear much talk about changing out the lights. To what? No one ever deems to mention that. I sure would like to know.

Sorry, I must have misunderstood your last question. You don't change out the Aerogarden lights unless they burn out six months down the road, but rather add additional CFL's around the plant. Are you asking what type to use? Plants in seeding and clone stage require about 400 - 500 lumens per square foot. In the vegetative stage growth they require about 2,500 lumens per square foot and in the flowering stage 10,000 per square foot.
So for the vegging stage you want to use bright high Kelvin bulbs (5000 Kelvins) and for budding low Kelvin (2300 to 3200). Use both at all times, but you can use more of the other at different stages as needed. Outside we have dual spectrums of light therefore inside we similate this by using blue (vegging daylight cfls) and red spectrum (flowering/budding soft white) compact fluorescent bulbs.

Some growers ditch the Aerogarden hood (which contains 3 CFLs) and hook up a high pressure sodium lamp.

I'm lettting mine veg for a little over a month and for flower I'll let them tell me when they are ready with a peak at those trichs. Also I would let the pump run 24/7 and get a ps2 power cord and plug it into the AG hood and the other end into a light timer (radioshack for both). Here's my white widow at 33 days.

Sweet setup man!! Looking great. Can you tell me how many lights you have around the plant, their type (blue or red spectrum), and wattage? How many timers are you using? What timer are you using? Do you need the ps2 cord because the Aerogarden pump won't run 24/7? Did you add cfl's as needed for each stage (vegging/flowering) or ran all lights from start to finish? Sorry for all the questions, but thanks and great job! :eyesmoke::eyesmoke:

thanx man. As for the lights currently I'm using 4 40watt soft white cfls I currently have them all running including the pump 24/0. As for the timers for when I go 12/12 I have all of my lights plugged into a surge protector which is then plugged into a light timer from radioshack. The ps2 cord comes in handy if you need to higher your hood past the AG limits and you can put the AG hood on the same timer as your lights while the pump runs 24/0. I just recently added the extra cfls but I would recommend using them from the start it makes them more bushy. I have 4 more lights to add when I start flowering.

what setting lets the pump run 24/7?

I'm sure that the anti-AG folks are right that there are way less expensive and more productive ways to get growing.

But here's why it's right for yours truly, at least so far (five weeks in, and so far so good...)

One of the nice things about getting OLD is that you learn not to BS yourself...it saves so much aggravation in the long run. You know what you "should" do...but you also know what you really "will" do. And if not for the AG--a self-contained and relatively idiot-proof little system--I never even would have considered trying to grow.

Any success I may have with the AG might give me confidence to try a more "productive" setup in the future. Then I can still use the AG for cherry tomatoes or fresh herbs or whatever. (Or resell the thing on craigslist).

I teach middle-aged and older people how to use computers, and it's the same with any new skill. A lot of folks are completely intimidated at first, and afraid to even touch anything lest they break it. I felt the same way about growing. But with enough hand-holding--whether it's learning the computer or learning to grow--many nervous newbies can gain confidence in their baby-level skills and become brave enough to try something more advanced.

Finally, I'm in favor of anything that enables adults to grow a personal crop in a discreet, convenient way. When personal growing becomes widespread enough, prohibition just might go away. (Hey, I can dream, can't I?)

Just my $0.02...and no, I don't own any stock in AERO! :)

I just ordered my Aerogarden this morning. I can't wait for it to come. I was thinking about getting some Papaya strain seeds for the reasons of it is a low growing plant and has a fruity smell for indoor growing. How does this sound? Is there something better I could get? Should I just try bag seed first? Thanks for any help and for this awesome info packed site.
