Advice switching from HPS to LED.

Yeah I will have a look around. Probably will buy two of something around 300GBP each from https://diyleduk.com
For a 2x 300w build, each for around 300££ try this:
3x diyleduk 4 foot lightengine: https://diyleduk.com/collections/samsung-strip-components/products/samsung-lm301b-led-light-engine-150w-max
Around 85£ each

And:

https://eu.mouser.com/ProductDetail/MEAN-WELL/LRS-350-48?qs=ah3jBNVE1PSzhibo2xPJuA==

Available in other suppliers aswell at maybe better prices.

36€ + tax

85x3 + 45ish for the driver= 300

Each set of 3 on one driver is about 300£ but you would be cheaping out a bit on the driver; no dimming if i remember right, however you could also connect the 6 to one driver inorder to do half power. Also not great efficiency on the driver.

Id confer with diyleduk about the driver still, he knows his stuff and been testing extensively with meanwell drivers.

I sent them a email asking about two Scope 275L samsung strip or one Scope 530L samsung strip if they would be suitable for a 150x150cm tent.

That would be a little light on wattage, 2x 370 would be perfect.
Yeah i'm probably going for two 375. One 750 would be nice but I think its better to have two smaller if I someday descide to go smaller. 3000k or 4000k on the spectrum though, im gonna use the light for flowering?

err don't unless you can supplement with heat, waste of time and money otherwise
A heater will be enough for that won't it?

I took a look now at my temps now when the HPS have been off for 10h and it's at 21C and it's about 2-3C outside.

You need to keep the plant warmer, like 25-30C. Youll need to dial in your nutes again, especially calmag. Some people have raised their PH a bit for more Mag. Hanging height, better talk it over with the manufacturer, generally start high and lower slowly, its very easy to light burn and bleach led plants especially if they are cold.

yes just take into account what money you save on light you'll have to replace in heat.
something the led fanboys won't tell you

Hi.
I've been thinking about switching from HPS to LED for a couple of reasons but what I've come to understand that 99% of all LED lights sold on Amazon, Ebay etc is bullshit and most people here seem to DIY and i'm not a handy guy when it comes to building light setups.
So I've been looking around for a good light (one or more) that would cover a 3.6x3.6x7.1 (90x90x200cm) tent and replace a 400-600w HPS.
Mars Pro II Epistar 160 is one of those enough for one or two plants and will I need to by a ballast for a LED light or do I just plug it in like normal?
My budget is around 650GBP, but I don't live in the UK but any seller from the UK any other good shop in Europe are welcomed so I can order it here.

Best regards.
A combo .

CMH with Cob Lighting also. Might not yield like HLG Quantum Boards but quality weed for sure.

No purple lighting, thats a definite.

1 CMH with adjustable power + 4 dimmable cobs, free hanging in the corners with up to 80w each: you could run the CMH on low or even not at all over the hot summer months and dial in your temps all thru the year by going harder on cmh or led.

Yep. Options...adjust as needed.

Thank you. I've been a bit confused when i've been reading about some lights for example the Mars Pro II Epistar 160 I wrote about earlier says it has 800w which would replace a 400w HPS. So I thought the Scope 375 samsung strip which have 375w would replace a 150w HPS if you know what i'm saying?
But the Scope 375 will be as 'powerful' as a 400w HPS as I understood by your post?

I want to get away from heat, because my neighbor complained about noise coming from my apartment. When I had a 600w HPS in my 150x150cm tent I had to buy bigger exhaust fans, but after the complaint i've been growing in my 90x90cm tent under a 250w HPS with a smaller exhaust fan.
So if those LED lights don't generate much heat, then I want to put up my 150x150cm tent again with the exhaust fan I have now on my smaller tent.
If I go back to the 150x150cm tent, then I would need 2 Scope 375, or can I get away cheaper and still get enough out from the lights?
So companies on here like Horticultural lighting group , timber and diyled (who sells HLG lights and his own in uk) will all list the actual watts the board or strips use. Some may be cranked up slightly over the listed wattage, like a hlg135w kit will go up to 150w.

With that level of efficiency you can use less power to produce more light than HPS, with cheap lights on amazon it takes around the same power.
The confusion with lights like mars or vipar spectra or any other Chinese light is that they take the number of diodes and multiply that by the max wattage of the diode. So you have 500 diodes at 3w and they call it a 1500w light, but the diodes will never run at that because they would burn out so they massively underpower them to prolong the life of the light (which is normal for LEDs) So you get a light that's called 1500w but is actually 270w In power it uses. Its mostly a sales tactic to sell shit lights.

There really is no comparison between old blurple tech made from the cheapest parts and what we use these days, been white strips, cobs or boards paired with the best drivers on the market. The only similarity is they are all LEDs. But as far as performance they are worlds apart.

I second diyleduk since I bought my last HLG quantum board from him and he's a sound bloke and a member on here.

Also you said you havd a 3.6x3.6 tent and said 90cm x 90cm, but 90cm is 2.95ft so im not sure if you have a 90cm x 90cm tent or bigger.
If its 90 x 90 cm then 260w QB kit or similar wattage of scope strip light is fine. I would probably go for the scope for more light spread and better uniformity.

Now you also said you had complaints form neighbours over noise. Fan hum can go through a brick wall like a knife through butter. Its the frequency of noise that is very hard to stop.
If you want a truly quiet fan I will link the one I just bought. Its 25db, which is really quiet, my old Isomax airforce 2 silent fan was 50db, most fans are in the range of 50db give or take, but the decibel scale is not linear, google it.
So its almost silent in the room and cant even hear it through a shitty wood door nevermind a brick wall.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hydroponics-Silent-6-Inch-150mm-370m3-h-GROW-ROOM-ACOUSTIC-BOX-EXTRACTOR-FAN/262879275996?hash=item3d34d36bdc:g:fMgAAOSwHSRbs0eh:rk:13:pf:0

Im only running a 2x4ft tent with a 260w QB at the moment, I should of gone with the 4" fan because even with a digital speed controller running the fan at less than half speed I only get about a 3 degree rise from ambient with lights on.

Anyhow I cant stress enough how much more comfortable I am running this fan, its the best thing ive bought in ages. I used to run rucks, airforce 2 silent, all boxed in with acoustic material to muffle the noise, it was never quiet enough for my liking.
This fan takes the piss, you have to double check its on its that quiet.
