Advice or good link for basic dwc tote setup and maintenance

Hey guys,

I'm an organic soil grower, but really fancy a go at dwc. My room is only 2.5x3ft and I grow 4 per run.

Does anyone have any good advice or links that cover the basics. I assume I'll need to run it with liquid oxygen as my room is 72-90 C

I'd like to use a tote container of about 50 litres. Any advise is really appreciated!

Happy growing.

one tote in the tent, another outside preferably bigger.2 bulk heads some 1 1/2 hose.pump lives in outside tote 1/2 line to top of tote in room.cut 2 5 in holes for net pot add two air stones.simple as it gets.pump should be small 100~200 gph.run a T in res to bleed off some water for air.
or go with a much bigger pump to make water falls.no air stones needed then.will be a lot louder though.

Cheers myke. I don't have any space outside the grow, but I could stack one tote on top of another. I've got about 5ft in height to play with. Would you use liquid oxygen to keep the res clean?

Happy growing!

Make room for the outside res ,no ways around that. You can do just dwc but to many troubles and maintenance is more difficult.

also 2.5x3ft will only be able to grow one plant.5ft high will also cause problems.

The big thing is water temp,68f is what you need. You can separate the room, say 16in off the floor will need an insulated layer with a fan to keep air temp at 68,small hole for the stock to go through. Then above that in can get warm.youll want a drain in the tote and hole in the lid for access.
easier to just have another tote outside in a cool spot.

Cheers.
The cupboard is on our hallway, so outside is impossible. Also temps are high (warm house).

Guess I'd be best sticking with soil. Less problems.

Thanks for the info guys.

Coco could be an option. But if you have the organic thing down then why change.
It's expensive to grow with soil where I live, and the soil mixing takes a while. I've just been told about the increase in growth and yield with hydro.

Then id assume liquid nutrients would also be expensive?Coco is the only other option considering the high temps.Look at the drain to waist section.

I do use the full biobizz range. Works a treat.

I'll have look at Coco, as I think I'm about the only one growing in soil, according to my local hydro stores.

Cheers myke.

you only got 2.5x3ft with no room outside
Trying to do 4plants
Go 5gal buckets. If it’s going to be hot with no AC or chillers, I think you have to go sterile, no bennies.
5 gal buckets will be the easiest to work with. Got to be light proof buckets etc.
it will be cheep and it’s not the Ferrari of rigs but a Honda will still get you there.

Well I've zeroed my organic soil mix, but if hydro produces more, and faster crops, I'm interested.

I'll read a bit more. Can good airstones keep the oxygen levels up, even if the temperature range is 70-80°f?

I could lay a paving slab, or slab of granite under the tote/buckets to stop the temperatures from fluctuating.

72-90C? i hope that is F.. as in temperature Fahrenheit
liquid oxygen?? what are you talking about co2?
basics--
water temperature
water quality
hydro (water) specific nutrients
hydro dynamics ( the build)

only further recommendation is using a waterfall type system with no air pump (air pumps will use air to oxygenate water ineffectively and on top of that heat up water excessively)
underwater culture works great with a waterfall and proper temperature
it is almost like setting a fan to blow on your plants. a little is great too much can be bad. Don't overdo the build but allow enough flow for the system to work correctly

any science shit has variables. consider all of the above and then some and you will do great

If you're only growing in small space maybe auto may work out better. My DIY SWC in my sig describes a basic system that's trouble free.
