Well...it's always a concern. Personally I guess it just comes down what level of security you're comfortable with. The 3 main techniques I would use are:
1) The website can only run under an SSL certificate.
2) The website would be password protected.
3) *Optional* - Restrict access by IP address in addition to #2. Not practical for mobile devices.

Doing those steps would be sufficient security for me.

I vaguely understand your suggestions which is why I'll have to leave it with you for now haha. I'm interested to float around here and learne though.
