Adjusting Cloning Technique for High Humidity

A few months ago I noticed that my clones were rooting slower about the same time we started having solid high humidity here in snow country. I had been enjoying a 90+% success rate until the humidity climbed and couldn't understand why the humidity made a difference as I keep the RH at 100% inside the dome.

I use the larger 2-inch jiffy pellets for cloning and wring them mostly dry before placing the cutting into the pellet. Then every 3 to 4 days I would dip the bottom half inch of the pellet into water for 2-3 seconds to re-moisten the pellet. This method worked well for years until lately. I tweaked some of the variables and the only move I made that increased rooting time was to quit dipping the pellet while in the dome. Voila! Back to 100% success rate.

This is what worked for me. Holler if you have had to adjust your cloning operation and let us know what you did.

Good luck, BigSteve.
