Adding light to reach shade under canopy or clone?

Hello RIU,

I was thinking about taking clones from the lower parts of plants, but I am one week into flower and thinking about adding some cfl to lighten up the lower areas instead. What are your thoughts on this method? Would it take from the upper colas resulting in a smaller harvest or would it create more?

Would taking clones be better?

Hey there. You'll probably be better off just taking some clones because in my experience low-intensity lights aren't going to give you very good quality buds anyways. Better some nice top colas four months from now rather than a few fluffy buds in eight weeks.

What kind of lights are you using now?

veged under 600w mH and now under 750w hps. 72 watts a sq. ft.

It looks like they were grown with the light too far away from them especially since a mH is supposed to have less distance between nodes than an HPS

I have done it both ways and honestly different strains react differently to it all. Let me explain. Right now Im growing blue dream and some headband (and others lol) but just to compare those two If i leave them on the blue dream they produce awesome nugs without loss of quality throughout the plant and increase my yield per plant while if I leave them on my headband the wholoe plant seems to suffer. The buds are wispier on the plant and they take forever to mature while if I cut them off the headband it creates nicer more plump and stonier flowers. If you dont know what the reaction will be try removing them from some but not others and compare and when you flower your next clones of that strain you will know what works best. Id still throw the cfl's in more light cant hurt good luck hope I helped.

no stretching, the lights were always 12'' or closer. nodes are about 3-4" apart on a 3 foot plant. the strain is Presidential OG and very resilent. i am thinking the lower branches will do better than average.

Thanks for your experience. If its true that the Blue Dream does well, then I am sure the Prez OG will do awesome. I am just going to let em go, and nute the sh*t out of them. Can always get some more clones. Plus, saved a mama.
