The military has always been that way. They called it redux back then. If the numbers were not needed the military would offer a cash settlement for guys with 12-15 years to get out. It may be $50,000 or more. If you took it you didn't get to retire.

I wouldn't take it if I were in that situation. If I had 15 in I would try for five more.

Sometimes stupid shit happens. A good friend of mine was an E8 in the army with 19 years in. He was put in charge of watching a unit over a 4th of July weekend at a lake.

Some dumb E1-E3's were screwing around and shot a mortar firework across the lake and it hit a generals cabin.

It really wasn't the E8's fault. It's hard to watch that many people and he didn't want to be a hardass.

They busted him down to E6 and he spent another three years after his 20 to get to retire as an E8.

Maybe there was cause for it but I've seen a lot of guys close to retirement get screwed over for no reason other than to save some money.


I can tell you from first hand experience that it's hard to deal with the VA and get benefits that are due.

Did you get offended by what someone said, did you not expect that someone might say a few words of truth to you every now and then?

I'd expect those words were not placed there to cause harm, the benefit of the doubt could be the comment was merely for educational purposes, people are becoming increasingly paranoid where mental illness exists, someone mentioned that that Gay's are a good place to start.

I'd have to agree with them on these statements, who wouldn't?

Another possibility is that the original poster may or may not know they posted a comment or not, likewise sometimes things get taken into the wrong context, and people react with the assumption that a comment was meant to inflict harm, when the original comment may have been stated from a neutral point of view?

I see that here as well with disabled vets trying to get benefits, very sad at times.
