Hi folks, here is the Week 3 of 12/12. I changed the water PH was going up and I could not control it. Otherwise everything is going along easily, no problems, except the Phototron is running out of room inside.

Things are just moving along.....

I changed the water again today so I thought I would take some pics, also added another 42 w CFL up to around 256 watts total

'Phototron' reminds me of something from an Arthur C Clarke sci-fi novel from back in the sixties Loving this grow golddog, something a bit different. Theyre doing very well

My other pictures did not show much detail up close, so I took some more, hopefully you can see the bud development better.

If you look at my first post you will notice 2 plants in the Phototron. The little one on the right was a clone I bought at the club which I bought a week after the Larger Trainwreck. I don't know what strain it is as I was high when I bought it.

Anyway.....

It didn't take off as the other, almost died as I gave it nutes to early. Brought it back to life and thought I would see what we could do outside. I figured we are almost 12/12 outiside let's see if she flowers.

I am going to let this one go and I'll let you know what happens. It is starting to BUD

Lovely golddog Can I ask about the DWC, couple of questions:

Whats the pump/airstone schedule? How often do you run the pump? Do you just change the res as the PH rises or do you just change at regular occassions? You certainly have some strong root growth there Every time I see a DWC grow I wonder why I still bother growing in dirt! I have some experience with this method but I'd like to hear how you approach it.

A: I run the airstone all of the time.

A: I started out, just watching the PH, I use a baking soda solution and distilled white vinegar to adjust the PH. Mostly just lowering the PH so I use vinegar.

A2: Since I had such a hard time adjusting PH because of the small reservoir and High water usage, I have been changing it every week.

You've got to watch it, as it uses a lot of water once you start getting a lot of growth. Other than that just decide on fertilizer (don't need hardly any) and it is amazing.

I think this method along with clones is the best thing to come along. And it is very easy. When I grew from seed and in dirt it was such a hassle.

I am getting ready to build a box, I will be cloning this plant and doing a DWC in a stealth box and larger scale.

Anything I could help you with, just let me know.

Thanks for answering my questions golddog I agree about DWC being very straightforward and reliable. The reason I stopped was because I needed to move plants between two cabinets and soil seemed more practical but I can find ways around that now. What I like is having total control over those roots!

Hi Folks,

Been working on my Phototron. I realized I was having a cooling problem that putting a fan inside did not help. Went to Fry's Electronics Store and bought 4 X 120 cm Computer Fans. Two blowing out the side on top and two sucking in near the bottom. I wired them to a 12v power supply and it dropped the temp to room temp and the fans blow more than enough that I won't need another fan inside.

Took a sample 7 g small branch (Oct 10th), dry out to 2.3 g (2.0g bud + 0.3g stem) will try it out later.

Looked the buds with 200 x Eye Clops, a toy electro magnifier. Not ready yet.

It has been 12/12 for 40 days and in Bud for 23.

My pictures are not any better than the others (not close enough) so I am not posting them. I might have my son take some pictures for us.

Gettin close, got 2 X G-13 clones already going in another box for X-mas.

O.K. Tried it, Very Good, making me pretty surprised. I am going to let it Bud a couple more weeks. Then I think I will cut it back and keep it as a Mother.

High folks,

My plant lost all of its leave all that is left is the buds, getting bigger.

I am flushing it right now.

Stuff has an incredible smell. Took off a Bud that was in the way 6.1 g wet. Will let it dry, see how it is.

I an planning on cutting it way back next week, and getting it going as a mother for the future.

I am going Mining in the Desert, so will see how if goes, next week.

Tried some Trainwreck while I was stationed in Hawaii a couple years ago. Good shit, got me paranoid like when I first started smokin

OK - 67 days into Bud, cut it way back to keep as a mother.

Took off 71.0 g wet. Hoping to get 21.25 g dry.

Here are some pictures, sorry for the quality. I tried to used $20 bill to see the size also put it on a paper plate and in a shoe box.

The plants lost all of its leaves, just buds and stem left.

I will be more careful about drying, as the last tester I took of went way dry as I just left it in the shoebox while I was gone.

Stuff smell great has a good buzz. I will give a full report once it is ready to smoke.

Well it's cut and dried.

Total take was 84.1 g wet , 23.9 g Bud trimmed and dried.

What I learned :

DWC works great and I was very impressed.

Phototron - Just OK. I got a lot of really good growth , added more lights, added lot's of ventilation. It worked in it's limited way.

The main problem with the Phototron was that the bucket I used to contain the roots was too small. Making it very difficult to deal with when the plants started drinking 1/2 gallon a day. The bucket was only 5 quarts. The root ball took up so much space, displacing what could have been water in the bucket. This was because the opening to the unit was only 8 1/2 inches wide. I couldn't get a bigger bucket in there.

Problem 2 was cooling. I put in 4 X 120 CFM fans to help. 2 blowing out at the top and 2 blowing in at the bottom. This really helped (better than the kit they sell) lower the temps, all of the time.

So what will I do?

One solution would be to use the bottom of the Phototron as the reseviour rather than a bucket.

I will be using it just to keep the mothers and filling it with soil.

BUT ! I'll be back with another journal

Just ordered 2 Stealth Hydro bubbletronics units - Can't wait !

This has been a great First experience ( in 25 years).

Love the grow!!!! My first grow was in a Phototron from the 70's as well, an old hand me down from the pops. If those things were just a little bigger......

Well when I got Phototron as advertized in the back of Penthouse, we didn't really know about growing. We were not really clear on the sexing so we didn't deal with it.

I was never pleased with it and it got religated to the garage.

Now I have transformed it and it can really grow some bud.

But nothing like my new 400 w hps setup.

Nice, buds are nice looking, too bad so separated from each other, lots of stem, I think next grow, put the lights almost right on the plant (4" away maybe) - Regardless, good job. Im doing my first grow right now, It's a blast to see it change.
