AC in a tent exhaust question

I have a 5x5x6.7 jarden darkroom grow tent and I am thinking about buying a portable ac for the summer. I am growing in a garage and cannot really run an exhaust anywhere out the garage and can only vent the ac exhaust from the area outside the tent due to privacy/personal issues. My question is this: Is it possible to cool my tent by placing a portable ac unit inside the tent and exhaust the hot air to the area just outside the tent? This area is still inside the garage and I was wondering if ac heat buildup in the garage would render the ac inside the tent useless. Also, can anyone recommend a portable ac unit that works well and is able to be connected to either 4 or 6 inch ducting?
