A Real K.I.S.S. Growing Method - Soilponics

I have a couple of twists on this. Would it be worthwhile to put a fitting in the drain hole and attach a hose running down to a bucket. Let the bucket collect the run off and maybe use it to water around trees and plants in the landscaping.

Also, I was thinking of putting a PVC standpipe in the bucket as well. A couple of inches taller than the bucket and drill a few holes in the sides near the bottom of it. You could then send straight water to the rez if you get nute burn or to flush the plant at the end of the grow.
There's no reason you shouldn't use the run-off on other house or as you mentioned landscape plants. I've got a flat tote that collects my run off and I'll pour in on my apricot tree, it loves it.

As far as the standpipe I wouldn't do that. You don't want to send the water straight to the rez. A major part of what makes a hempy produce as well as it does for the size of the container is that through a rapid top watering you can force out all of the old air in the medium and suck in new air behind the column of water. So you are rejuvenating the O2 supply at the root level with every watering. gr865 another hempy grower does put a drain plug at the bottom of the bucket, for flushing or whatever, not that its needed but it sure doesn't hurt.

Another twist. I just had 8 new medium size cloth grocery bags given to me. They measure out to 4.28 gallons per bag. With a pan in the bottom for a reservoir, could these work with chunky perlite as a hempy machine?

I tried something similar a couple of yrs back. I cut the bottom off 2 five gal buckets then took 3 gal smart pots which fit snugly into the bottoms and used them for a couple of grows with clones. I also ran a couple of hard sided buckets each grow with the same clones. Both times the hard sided out preformed the fabric pots.

my twist - I use coco AND peat moss to balance my pH so that I can just pour in direct from the tap. It's just one extra level of lazy.

Time release ferts...gross

Stopped reading at that point
I don't use this method I use organic dirt but I started in hydro. I love not dealing with nitrients now it is just plant and grow..

Wattsaver great thread going to try a bucket

organic soil is the way to go. It's literally seed water sit back and watch them take off.

I'm sure organic soil is great, but you are missing the point of doing a hempy bucket I think.

To each his own. I don't know if has nothing to do with it, or everything to do with it, but I've never grown in soil and I've never had bug problems.

is that 1/4" soaker hose acting as bubbler? I tried that once - worked great for a while but seemed to degrade or something after awhile to where it didn't perform the same (this was NOT in soil, i had it in water and was actually using it as a bubbler for a little cloning system)

I have well water that's about 7.5 PH. Would the coco & peat moss balance that ?
You should be able to dial it in, you'd just adjust the amounts as needed. I've also run into others (@RM3 and crew) that are running sunshine #4 plus clay kitty litter with some dolomite lime added. Sunshine #4 is mostly peat but has some coco and other stuff in there.

Thanks! I assume the kitty litter isn't "used"

I just got back from Walmart cruising the clearance section of lawn & garden and bought an 8lb bag of Osmocote + for $15, and a gallon size jug of earthworm castings for $2.50. Can the castings be used with Osmocote? On a side note, not a single CFL bulb in the place! uh oh
