A Question About Pot Size

Hello Everyone,

I have some plants that are heading into flower. The strain is Sweet Zombie. The plants are untopped and about 15" tall. They are currently in 3 gallon pots. I usually put the plants into flower when they are 10" - 12", however the strain I am currently growing went longer than expected and the plants got taller in the mean time

My question is, will a 3 gallon pot be large enough to house these plants through a 56 day flower? I really don't want to transplant again, but I also dont want to end up with soft buds because the growth was stunted. Any advice you guys could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

WARNING: This strain has been known to turn people into zombies!

I've been caught like this and imo best to potup

it is almost a 100% indica so can do well in the 3usg

but its your job to bring out the best

and with a thc of 23% and another 2 months to go

potup but is your choice

5-7usg is good

good luck

You should be fine. I flower some pretty good little bushes in 2 gal pots that are usually about 18”. You may just have to feed more dillute but often.

Drop that 3 gal into a 10. Transplant always set a plant back keep in mind. I always go from rooted clone straight to a 7 or 10.

How big of a tree are you growing? 53891C6A-3DB6-4B45-BFE9-6CD074574B6F.jpegYoud be amazed what you can do with 2 gallons of soil. Its all about building a dense fiborous root system and proper feeding. 2C60786C-583C-4D11-8421-3220B718BD42.jpegI will admit, the plant in the first did not yield as much as it shouldve, a 3 gal wouldve been better but i have to be careful not to get plants too big.

I posted this in a leaf drooping thread but it applies here.

I flower 15"- 18" plants every week in #3 nursery pots that are actually measure about 2.5 gallons of soil in volume.

Many different strains and crosses from seed grown here but on average the sativa leaning hybrids end up about 30" tall. But that is bent by week 2 in 12/12 and tied down to promote branching. They would stretch 3x or more in flower if left natural.

And I average about 5 oz. per plant this way.

It is challenging to meet the plants needs especially with different strains from seed in smaller pots. But they keep getting bigger faster as I practice growing my perpetual garden so I have stuck with the smaller pots to help limit size. Lol.

Don't think I posted this yet

Here is a White Widow we just harvested she weighed 5.2 oz of dense nugs after close trimming.

I do find the need to adjust nutrient strength often and leach with fresh water if I make mistakes and over fertilize. This was my first seed from this breeder. I had some deficiencies but nothing too severe. But I definitely messed up some leaves.

Low dose every time once the soil is depleted is how I like to do it and taper the concentration up through stretch and peak bloom and back down during ripening.

I forgot to check the start date but she definitely went a bit more than 10 weeks. Very Haze leaning pheno. The test bowls made us giggly and red eyed. Had the Haze flavor I still have no idea how to describe. It's Hazey. :-)

I made a mistake. This is a ch9 Aroma x Blue Lemon Thai. I harvested both this week. Please disregard the White Widow description. I will post it later.

Sorry.

Yup. Thats pretty much it right there. Running nectar for the gods nutes though so i have a little less variance in feeding. A couole slight changes in certain bottles but theyre very gentle nutes so i pretty much feed away. I grow on a totally different scale. My bad. I don' run 1 plant. I run rooms of 30 or more.

Here is the White Widow I mistakenly described above.

3 gallon pot. Ocean forest and perlite. Pure Blend Pro Grow only added in flower.

IMG_7066.JPG IMG_7074.JPG

The point is unless the pots are filled with a dense healthy root ball a larger pot is not necessary as long as we meet the plants needs properly. I would only get a bigger plant if I vegged longer before flower. Otherwise it is just a waste of soil, water and fertilizer.

How many plants do you run at the same time? 1. That' great. Everyone grows differently here so my point is not useless. You just grow smaller plants and to baby one plant is fucking easy work bro.

I slowed down and am only running 12 max right now but can run up to 24 here total veg and flower.

I have posted plants like above every week since I joined. And grown like this with no days off for over 4 years to stay within legal guidelines. I am not a cash cropper. This is a legal Michigan Medical Grow.

I stagger germination/cloning/ harvest so we can harvest a plant a week on average. Right now it's 10 days to 2 weeks apart.

I care for each plant individually as they are all in different stages of growth. No schedules. I water or mix nutes individually as each plant calls for. And I stagger different strains and crosses for weekly variety. And to make oil with a wider array of canabanoids.

Problem is when the whole room need to be fertilized on the same day. Then it is a lot of work. Mrs MMG calls it "the trifecta" lol.

I know everyone grows differently but in potting mix in containers my point of proper transplanting for a better root ball is long proven. I did not get a larger yield merely from transplanting up to a 5 gallon rather than 3. I had to veg longer. And then they are too big for my room.

I have gotten just under a half pound on 2 different plants from seed at the current size.

And I have gotten 24 oz. under a 600w Hortilux super hps with 4 plants in 3 gallons pot with just 40 days veg from seed and potting soil and a base grow nute.

But we only need 3-5 plants per month here. So we do our best and they get way more attention individually and the quality can be very high and very consistent. Even from first try seeds.

I don't work with dispensaries anymore here but the flowers have tested thc between 17 and 24% in the past.

And we all grow with the space we have and for different reasons. Mine is our plants have mostly cured Mrs. MMG from lifelong internal cysts and has enabled me to live much better with my own health issues.

We grow for quality and diverse canabanoids. Not yield and cash.

What was your point that you have an attitude with me all of the sudden?

Problem is you grow different and you stepped on my toes as far as my reply to this link. Most growers I kno have their OWN way of growing. I grow bigger plants. High yielding which call for a bigger pot size imo. Idc what and how you grow. Just don' undermine me on here. I grow in a harvest what you grow in years. Respect

You should actually respect who you are talking too. Not just say respect. I don't need to defend myself. And I didn't step on your toes by stating and showing my experience and results.

Unless you are questioning your own results and experience I guess.

If the not too wise yet grower pictured in your avatar is you. You have not even learned the first rule of what we do.

I am much older and have been involved with this in different capacities since the early 80's. And even with much less experience you should know that a small Grow like mine can yield much higher quality than a cash crop.

And I am pretty sure you are boasting about a commercial Grow you just work at.

Sorry my little Grow "stepped on your toes"
