A Month of Sobriety

Of alcohol. I just woke up from a night of drinking with no memory whatsoever of the last few hours of the night. This is not ok with me. To me this shows that I can not handle my shit. I'm taking a leave of absence from drinking. One month I will drink no more than a lil bit o beer just because it is the best beverage ever invented. But I am quitting drunkeness. Waking up drunk is not fun and not remembering what happened last night is not fun.

I think I might quit smoking weed too......... NOT!

If you want to prove yourself a point quit both. Fasting is a part of religions, it teaches us discipline. If you think your lacking it, do it!!

But I`d just stick to drinking beer (I agree, its the BEST beverage) a little bit and quit binge drinking...

I think this way because intoxication should be viewed as an art :D You have 1 body... or 1 liver to be precise.

The better your liver is in the future, the less hangovers you will have in your life, that would be an added bonus.

Thats my own logic anyway, kinda like sustainable development... Sustainable intoxication :D

Instead of drinking a few beers here and there for one month, why not just go the month without any alcohol? If it's really that hard, then it means you are an addict/alcoholic. I know because I am one. 2 years clean from alcohol/benzos/opiates. I only smoke herb, and take the occasional psychedelic.

A month really isn't long enough to prove anything.

Go longer. I was told that I was an alcoholic so I quit drinking for 5 years.. . In a row (it wasn't that hard). While I wouldn't suggest that, a year might be a good thing. You might try utter sobriety. The best way to do that is to acquire all the chemicals you would as an avid user but store them all away, that way when you break your fast you have a veritable cornucopia of essential ingredients with which to play.

Everything in moderation, including abstinence.

well, depends, are you having trouble with the booze aside from not remembering one night?

cause, i used to drink alot as a younger man and i "remember" at least two times i had a black out.

and meeting alot of people next day, people were just cheery and said i was really drunk but in a good way.

later i just got bored with it, the scene and all that. gets to be tiresome sooner or later and my drug of choice is weed anyways.
might have a drink or 2 once a year or 2.

if it was just that black out (just a matter of drinking too much)
and no social problems because of the drinking, id just relax.

lol, but then again, truly, booze is a hard drug, somewhat comparable to heroin (so say scientists, actually they say booze is harder(just doesnt have the same social stigma and relating problems (heroin users tend to sick deepr quicker because of that)

so, might as well treat it with respect.

Your left brain desires impulsive behavior, especially if its the way you have always been. Your right brain is challenging this notion as accurate, causing you to desire to reduce the dissonance between the two circuits. This is the 'will'.

Do you want to?

i support you man. been through what you're going through. the fact that you have enough clarity to come out and say you can't handle your shit... bravo. for real, i wish you luck. i went about things very similarly to how you are, and it worked for me!

I am by no means an addict. I just drink on the weekends. And need a break. I think some of you may have over estimated the situation here.

Ah I see, would make it all the easier to stop then :)

But binge drinking is bad for you and its proven. Maybe concider going easy on your bud the day before the night and keep lower on the booze that way?

You would be much better off drinking a beer or two a night with some bud than hammering at the booze on the weekend to extremities health wise :)

But I`m a university student, binge drinking is fine in these grounds but I don`t do it that much anymore, first semester at uni it was pretty much every 1-2 week sometimes up to 3 times a week. It damages though, like I said "sustainable intoxication" and you can intoxicate happily ever after :)

perhaps i should have been less broad about my statement. i'm not an addict either. i noticed myself behaving in a way i wasn't comfortable with, so i changed my behavior very similarly to what you're describing. i still get pretty wasted every once in a blue moon, but i'm saying i'm where i want to be. worked for me, hope the same for you!

Liquor gets the best of us, no shame in a night forgotten! As long as you woke up with a clean record thats all that matters

Its best to keep beer with beer and liquor with liquor. Mixing the two can lead to a disaster of late night prank calls, stripping down to fleshy marrow, and singing the blues to your favorite long song. Alcohol either is the party solution or a gate to which all emotions lay exposed...

Drink wisely my friend ;)
