<<<<<A little assistance with Carbon Filters needed...

Alrighty RIU.

So, I was outside working on my car today. It was quite windy and the whole time I was out there I felt like I was in my grow tent. It's like the carbon filter doesn't even exist. I am 3-4 weeks before harvest and it's only getting stronger in there by the day.

It's an 8'x4'x6' tent, 25 plants on day 48 flower.
I have a 10"x20" Carbon Filter with a 6" hole directly secured to my 6" inline fan.
It's is piped outside and I also have a booster fan hooked up to the intake as well as exhaust lines.
Humidity is averaging 40%. But has been less lately and I need to put the humidifier back in there.

I live on the 3rd floor. This is a HUGE problem for me right now because the smell is extremely pungent outside all day and night.

Is there something I can do to get this shit working better???


What can I do????
I need to NOT smell it outside for the next 3 weeks.

I was thinking that. some fresh linen car fresheners or something. I have it attached to a dryer. I just don't want to draw the smell back into the tent and stink up my lovely ladies.

Hell even these would do the trick.


I was wondering if there was some sort of scented attachment filter for carbon scrubbers or anything like it....

The efficiency of a carbon filter is greatly reduced when the ducting makes all sorts of turns. At least by half based on what I see here. The streamlined exhausting of filtered air will help greatly.

Oh, in an emergency you can sautee garlic or cinnamon to mask the smell..

I don't understand how that would effect the carbon. I know it reduces air flow because of altering the movement of air instead of streamline. but I don't see how a flex pipe being flexed would cause the carbon to not absorb smells correctly. It worked 2 weeks ago. just not working now.

The backpressure coupled with intense resin production on such a scale just wont do the job. You might get a large filter as it let's more air to pass through and will last longer. Start with the ducting.

if possible don't vent outside, vent into another room that your tent does not intake from. go to the dollar store and pick up a half dozen on those odor neutralizing beads (fresh linen scent,BEADS dont get the blocks). place them in the path of the exhaust. then go to lowes and go to the industrial cleanser aisle. they have 1 gallon jugs of "Air and Fabric Odor Neutralizer" for $10. use this to refill your dollar store beads. it is prediluted and ready to go. dont get the concentrate since it has hospital grade disinfectants in it. you can also use it to refill febreze spray bottles and spray your whole place everyday. keep it away from your intake.

I go through these gallons on the reg, its way cheaper than ONA liquid and its the same shit. Anything that says all natural odor "neutralizer" is made from the same essential plant oils. I'll never pay for ONA refill liquid again.

I totally agree with the venting problem. Start with that as it should help with the air flow which is more important than some people think. Also, is there a reason your filter is in your tent? Its not a huge issue, but your fan could be drawing air from cracks around the venting without it getting purified with the activated carbon. I actually made my own carbon filter a few years ago. Just do a quick DIY carbon filter for the product and tech list. Its not hard, but you can make one in just about two hours and it can make a big difference. One thing I'd like to point out, activated carbon filters do need to be replaced regularly, but if it was working 100% a few weeks ago and now its not, that spells trouble. First, if they weren't flowering yet, there wouldn't be that much smell to scrub out. But I would venture to guess that its been declining in its performance for a while now, but you can only tell as the ladies start to reek. Or you have a crack in your vents somewhere. You might take the filter down and shake it a up a bit. Just a thought, GL!

Is that an IPower carbon filter?? Those are bunk as fuck and only work on vegetative plants. Get a Can Filter, I have also heard Phresh Filters work well too.

Ventech CF6 filter with the Ventech IF6 fan

Ive never had experience with that brand but if you got it off the internet it may not be the highest quality. I have learned the hard way to only get things off the internet that are also available at hydro shops. Have you used that filter before?

Does it run constantly?

Maybe get a filer fan combo to run all the time just in the room itself. That way the air is getting scrubbed well. dryer sheets in the exhaust tube will help too for emergency fix

Hey Guy,

Yes it's on 24/7 and has been since I hooked it up a couple months ago.

I was out there today and working on the car yet again. windy still no rain though, and NO smell...


Was the humidity outside effecting the carbon filtered air enough to cause the smell to show through??

I just don't understand how it works one day and not the next.

No have never even used a filter before this grow.

It WAS working and very well for the last 2 months in veg and throughout flower. The plants are starting to swell now and they are getting WAY more pungent. it was raining outside and very humid. but within the tent the humidity was still low enough for the filter to be working.
There was NO smell today and I have no clue why it would work one day and not the next.

One question....

Where is the prefilter?

The fabric prefilter traps dust particles which can clog the carbon bed making them less effective.


Personally I use a 600CFM filter with a 250CFM fan. My filter is almost 2 years old and still No smell.

I grabbed the ipower for this current grow, works very well, i got the tent packed out but its only a 3x3x6 tent so air is moved through constantly, the fan is way powerful so i paired it with a variac variable transformer to control the speed, and its works great .

Ona gel works wonders.

I didn't believe so i ordered just the 3 inch ona gel block pro....that thing works great, i got two more, no way you can smell ganja, just fresh ona gel smell.

Got the new apple crumble one last week, its also great.

edit: i use it when i want to light up somewhere nice in the house and no ones home... i open the ona gel, it works great... give it 15-30 mins by a fan the smell travels and eliminates all odors

Got ripped so I took it off. Didn't think it would make that much of a difference...

I can buy a new one but the filter doesn't look dusty at all. and like I said earlier. It's working today but wasn't working yesterday... lol

I was working all the way up till yesterday then I could smell the tent outside all day. then POOF it's working again and I can't smell a thing when I am out there. wind was still heavy and blowing in the same direction as yesterday. Just no rain.
