It occurred to me to write this after stepping outside my home realizing there was a broken egg on my driveway. I wondered if it was random or if was a intentional egg. I could care less about as it was just one egg and on the concrete... no biggy. I notice my neighbor across the street and he was next door, at his sister's house ( I knew of relation due to brief conversation from her from past conversation) Anyway s he was looking around at her yard , I thought that perhaps they got egged to. So I started walking across the street, when I thought I seen a broken egg shell and egg yolk only to be my imagination. After realizing there was nothing I started to talk to him. He was from the middle east, but you really couldn't tell until you asked for his name and seen his sister. Anyway I asked him if he had same problem with eggs as I did he said no. After realizing it, I kept it brief, but positive. I said ok well thanks anyways, it was no big deal anyhow, but it sure is nice out today being after Halloween. ( weather was nice and sunny after being cold)

After saying something about the weather, and started to walk away, he then opened up to me and asked me about my dog. I had a prior incident where someone called the police on my dog because it tried to bite a neighbor. Long story short I was not giving a ticket and only a warning. I have a large German Sheppard and I ensure that he is properly taking care of as he provides me my security. After the neighbor explained to me what happen, I apologized to him and explained to him what happen. I tried to make nice with him sort to say. You see, I need all the nice neighbors I can get. I did not know it was this neighbor who had the issue with my dog, and he did not say he called the cops, but I knew. Had I not gone over there to talk to the neighbor he would of never told me.
It is crazy how a simply conversation can change something. Now that I talked to that neighbor, I will more than likely not have to deal with him calling the police on me for any reason( assuming conversation was positive) . I have some strict neighbors that are very sensitive for various reason. I rather make peace with them then be a enemy, because you never know when they can help you. They might be outside, and realize someone suspicious by your house and have a better chance to intervene or notify you. When growing you have to be careful not to create a scene and you always want to blend in.

Everyone pretty much knows the basics about being a good neighbor. I have typed up a small little guide to help those even become a better neighbor especially when growing!

1) Do not create attraction/attention- with lots of traffic coming from your house. Neighbors will notice, and can lead to suspicions. Especially when you have cars come and go, that's not good. Since when do you go over to a friend's house and stay for 3 minutes then leave and do this every day? This can be even more crazy if driveways are shared, like duplexes or apartments, or they are really close together where it can interfere with them pulling in their own driveway, when you have 5 cars parked outside your house.

2) Keep a clean home exterior wise, if possible interior too (Its good for the plants to be in a clean environment). Some neighbors hate those who litter, because the trash tends to migrate and move onto their lawns. Even if the trash comes from pesky stray animals digging your trash , pick it up! This is a great way for a code compliance worker from the city to take a visit to your house. You do not need that kind of attention. This includes cutting the lawn, do not be the neighbor everyone talks about who never maintains there lawn... blend in...( this will also prevent city from stopping by)<- if that applies where you live

3) Lights..especially bright lights! Where ever your grow op is ( i.e. attic, basement, room, closet) Make sure your neighbors can not see any bright light escaping from a window, door, or some type of crack. Especially when you open your door and really let it shine out! Make a LIGHT TRAP! you can use heavy duty black painters plastics which is cheap and will help cover up the light. Its only like 5 bucks for a large roll and its a 3 or 4 mil which is perfect.

4) Do not be the annoying neighbor. Every neighborhood is different some will tolerate things over others. So if you're in the type of neighborhood that does not like to have parties every weekend, do not be to throw parties and have all kinds of traffic at or around your house. Or if you're the type that does not give a shit about laws and ignites illegal fireworks on your own street...Don't... Yes I am guilty of that, I made a professional like firework display for out street, it was spectacular, but there were still 2 unhappy neighbors afraid that it start a fire. Luckily enough I was only caught with a sparkler in my hand... and the heavy duty stuff disposed of..Yet they still made a scene..

5) Talk to your neighbors every now and then. You be surprised how much they tell you after you spoken to them and got to know them. You do not have to walk over there you can always make casual conversation by saying hey ...so and so... how is it going? Enjoying the weather today, about time we have something decent come in. You can be real brief, and just by doing that helps create a bond with your neighbor...you be surprise how much more willing they be to help you. ( May not always be the case but studies have shown this to be true)

6) Although this does not pertain with neighbors, it can in some way if you were ever to really kick it off and make friends with them. Do not let your friends know about your grow op! If you can keep it a secret! This will help safe you a lot of grief. Friends tend to tell others, snitch, or even steal. It is better just for peace of mind to keep it to yourself. I myself have 3 people that know about my intentions. Yes I really hate breaking this rule but two of them are really good friends, who are looking forward to the finished product and the other one is my cousin who help me gather my supplies. Those 3 have also known about me growing mushrooms and no issues ever happened nor do I plan too. They know not to tell anyone, and jokingly but serious about it, lol, I told them that knowing about the operations is the same as growing and can hold you at liability too. Cops will tell you anything and lie to you, its best you let anyone know how react with cops and procedure to do when someone asks them about you. (That is if they know) Trust me, I have done this with my cousin, and he did get approached! ( He worked at a my old company and a field manager asked him if he knew that I smoked pot, the field manager only asked him because he got his smoke from me, but I told him not to tell know one that I smoke...once again..notice how he still tells my cousin. What if my cousin was totally against it? This is why it's best to keep things to yourself) but after me talking to him on what to say and not say, he handled it very well. Cops have a tendency to really get what they want, especially those who do not know your rights. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS!

7) Smell! keep all smells to a minimum in and around your home! Yes someone told me that they could smell my smoke in front of their door, from me smoking a blunt! It got me paranoid, for one, I did not know the guy, and two what if some cops came by?! If at all possible smoke in a room further in the back or somewhere where the smell will not be noticeable to people around the home. Light up some incense oils before smoking to help mask odors! Make sure you mask all odors coming from grow area to. This can tip off police something is going on!

8 Pay your bills! Yes my friends, you don't need a employee from your local electric company turn off your electricity and ruin your grow and possibly stumble upon anything. this is a minor rule , as if you follow the other ones, it be kind of impossible for them to detect anything unless your stealing any type of utility or service! Trust me people have gotten caught stealing utilities and still could not pay on time, only to get cut off and then get caught followed by hefty fine!

9 If your renting, then make sure you pay your rent on time and know your landlord. I do not mean get to know him/her's favorite color. I mean know if there the type of landlords that make some type of visiting to your home during your lease. Some do, and some don't and could careless even if the house was falling apart, like mine J/K. :) You do not want to have to take the time and cover up and hide whatever it is your doing, unless you already have a stealth grow. For the most part, I have two animals with no pet deposit and why? Because my ass is cheap , and I do not believe in paying more money because my animals are trained. My dog majority time spends time outside, so I know for fact they haven't stopped by at all, or else be calling to give me there lucrative fine.

9) Do not draw attention to yourself! Big baller where did you get those flashy rims and new Cadillac from? You said you worked at burger king again? Blend in,fit your profile... no one needs to throw accusations at you saying you're a potential drug dealer, grower, kingpin because you live a rather lavish lifestyle. If you're a person who likes music and insist on having a nice system that tells you and the next neighboring city your nearby, do not play it in your neighborhood at all. This help you out a couple of ways, it will not piss off any neighbors who hate your music, vibrations, noise, or there sleeping and suddenly woken up by it. Or they hear a really bad ass system and decide to break it in and steal it.

These are just some of the things that come in mind when being a good neighbor and blending in! A couple of additional tips I like to use, is when disposing of trash make sure you separate anything incriminating from the rest of your trash. It can be important because you do not need a light bill with your personal information in a bag full of hydroponic related trash. Also if at all possible go with black trash bags..I do not like neighbors, if they do know what is in my trash and possibly see something. If you have a pest problem like cats or even worse, use vinegar mixed with bleach and spray or pour over the trash to prevent them from getting into it. It has worked for me. As well if you have a problem with them getting into your trash can, they sell a animal stopper trash can that has a lid that cannot be removed by animals. I hope any of these suggestions help out to you fellow members. Also make sure know loud unusual sounds can be heard outside your house. Remember blend in....

i believe thats an example of how not to atract attention; do the opposite of that. its not a good idea to have a decapitated shed with satalite tv and a complex venting/ducting system visable

Perfect thread...
Neighbors do pay off! Actually there are two right across from me, both are my patients....I can completely trust them for surveillance and security...IF anyone is at my house or even creeps by I recieve a phone call..I'll get calls even when I'm home and a friend stops by which is very rare. These guys are on point for sure..One of them even watered and cared for my plants during my month of incarceration...amazing how talking to your neighbors does work out...Now on the flip side, the one next to me is air force. Top secret even more elusive than I...theres no talking to that one except for the brief hello exchange and he's gone.

Oh and the reason I posted (really ripped)...the egg...You think someone knows or it was a random?
I haven't had any threats like that, but things are building up..I have seen footprints thru my grass and something kind of random...3 houses up somebody decides that when I drive by someone clicks the alarm on the car in the street, wtf is up with that? and I notice the small things, he/she will do it 3 or 4 times throughout the day...seriously..I know that my house leaks a massive odor that you can probably smell from the stop sign on a hot day, but that will be gone as of tomorrow..now I am off to finish painting my house so it blends in better...lol

Good thread lots of helpful information, I've been living at my house for over 20 years I know all my neighbors and none of them have problems with me so I think i'm good. But you still can't be too safe.

Lol.. even in cali being a good neighbor still matters.. I know plenty of friends with medical cards who have had problems with people knowing. Its good to be a good neighbor and not be on the radar screen.
