A few questions about micro grows...

I have a few grows under my belt (white widow, reclining buddha, and snow white. I was able to hit around a pound with a 600w every two months when I did it previously. I am thinking about a very small stealth grow and was curious as to possible yields. If I had a 2x2 flowering area with around 300+w of led would that be able to yield a qp every two months or so? Is there a big difference in quality with led/cfl? I was thinking of 6inch or 1 gallon planting bags shoved tightly together in the 2x2 area and put into flower as soon as the clones are rooted each run. Also what are some good tasting/potent strains (not auto) that work well in this type of environment? Thanks ahead of time.

Just a quick response, but there are more than few who yield a qp or more off of 1 Area 51 light or DIY in a 2x2 setup.....that is only 150-190 watts. I have seen up to 6 oz runs off 1 Area 51 RW150.

Most people switching to "known" led diode bins [Cree, Bridgelux, Nichia, Osram, Phillips, etc] even newbs are almost guaranteed 1 gram/watt, with most of the well made or high quality available bins.

I don't know about quality difference, but even switching to LED bulbs [Cree] over CFL's was an immediate improvement in yield [not staggering but noticeable watt/watt] , always dense buds, usually finish faster, but I was also using less power for more photon output.

My first LED grow used 75 watts, while I had pretty much used the same space with 135 watts of CFL's initially and yield was about the same that 1st run and got better and better. Only anecdotal......

White Cobs are really the rage right now for DIY :peace:

Thanks for the quick response, wow! You have made me very hopeful already. XD

Check the led sub section for info on the cree cxa3070 cob (chip on board) I think better bang for buck. Can start with minimal light and add new cobs as you have money.

I have 3.1 sqft and had use a Chinese led. Didn't get near that much but my cab is also short. So how tall is your grow?

Your goals are realistic and reachable nullfaith.

With good genetics and good care you could do it with a single plant. Just about any indoor strain should be suitable. If height is a concern then obviously you'll want to avoid tall sativa dominant strains.

I am thinking around 4-5. It will be a stealth dresser so imagine the taller side of dressers. I will most likely be building it entirely myself and using a raspberry pi and linux to automate stuff as well. XD

I really do NOT want to go the auto-flower route that I see a lot of micro/stealthers go. I LOVE the sativa high, but in this situation I am thinking indica dom. Off the top of my head an OG kush flavor or this really amazing straing I have never seen others use called reclining buddha. Thanks for the reply.

Sativa can be done using a screen of green method. Takes care of height issue, but still got long flower time. May want to grow a batch or two of indica for a stash then do a sativa.

DIY with COBs with more blue / less red (CXA 3500K, Vero 4000k) to help keep stretch at bay. See Mr. Flux's grow for inspiration.

Indeed, I will keep that in mind. This will be sog so most sativa, yes, would have to be ran on it own in a long scrog or with lots of lst.

Thanks man, I do not know a ton about LED yet so I am thankful for advice/input. I really do think that a kush will be ran though. I just have not had much else that is as good as good kush. XD

leds are great but if your a HID man already you can get 30w and 70w 3000k hid`s very cheap and the bulbs are cheap to

but leds have less of a fire risk and you can turn them on and off fast making them better in some respects

There`s a few people that make there own leds on here theres a guy called Sailerstardust (or something like that) who`s made some really good treads on his diy stuff.

Yeah sailor makes some nice fancy custom lights.

If you want down and dirty and basic science look to supraspl's threads on cxa3070 led cobs

Thanks for all the input guys. I used to run a 600w hps but I think led sounds fun, and sounds easy to control temps and such. Also in a really tiny area I figure led is good because if the plants get to close late in flower, no burn.
