A couple quick mite question

I just got a clone from a guy who recently had spider mites. I have it by itself, in another part of the house for now...far far away from my grow rooms.
I was wondering 1st, whats the best way to treat the clone, and 2nd will I be able to see the mites? how do I know when it's safe ?...and I already keep ladybugs in my grow room, if that helps me any??

well to treat it you can dunk it into a miteicideal solution that can be purchased online or in hydro stores. i definitely recommend taking immediate action as mites are persistant bastards that can and probably will spread thru your whole house, and infect your other plants. think about it, mites introduce themselves from outside into peoples grow rooms, and you just invited them into your house. the clone is most likely infected, and may ruin your grow.
yes you can see mites on undersides of leaves with the naked eye but they are hard to see. use a magnifying lens and check for clear, tan or black tiny bugs, look for "webbing" or other signs of colonization.
mites can become immune to one type of pesticide, so its reccomended to alternate pesticides, and NEVER spray a flowering plant as most pesticides are not rated for consumtion through combustion.
best to take preventative measures now and clean everything with bleach, hang stickytraps, grab some neem oil and whatever you can
if i were you id put the clone outside away from my indoor garden. outdoors mites are ever present, but are in symbiotic balance with nature so they dont overwhelm plants as they do indoors.
good luck man and get going on removing the pest, it only takes one pregnant female mite to destroy an entire crop.

Run under a cold shower it stuns the mites till you get sorted.

Thanks, I just put the clone out on the porch for now....I've never had mites ( yet..knock knock...lol)...I definatley don't want those little basterd in my grow room, but I really wanted to get my hands on this strain...the guy treated all his stuff, then saturday he moved to a new house and treated everything again to be safe...so the clone should be good, but I'm getting out the scope now...I'll go check that clone out and see if I can see anything...thanks again

Its not a matter of if, but when. Go online and buy "triple threat". Its a mix of three different predator mites. They run around and eat the spider mites, and do a much better job than pesticides or neem.

...what about the soil? he brought me the clone in soil...I grow in hydro. Do they live in the soil too?
I was just going to grow this one in soil as a Mother Plant , but I think I'll just take a bunch of cutting and bud this one out so i don't have to deal with soil in my growroom at all...but if I don't see any mites on the plant, then there could still be some in the dirt?

I do keep ladybugs in the growrooms , I've been doing that for about 18 months now and have never had any problems...maybe thats good enough if I don't see any with the scope?

Yeah, ladybugs are the shit too. Spider mites can come in on the wind, from your shoes, from Fido, from that shitty plant in the living room, your Aunt brought over. They infest over a thousand plant species. They can go dormant for months. Just use common sense, and if you get um, hey fuck it, welcome to the club. Like I said, if you grow long enough, your gonna get um. With clones its kinda easy to take care of, shoot the underside of your leaves with ice water, then gently (wipe), not pat, dry. Use a 30 power lens or better, and look for the critters, mature mites have a black dot on each shoulder. Also look for what appears to be, tricome heads on the underside of the leaves, these are eggs. They don't hang in the soil for the most part, but they do crawl great distances. Wikipedia them. Know your enemy.

I have a little box that I put my clones or any new additions in for a week... I have cfl's to keep her alive... in the box I hang a hot shot no pest strip with a little fan in their to distribute the pesticide. These no pest strips can be toxic.. DO NOT use in flower.. I know some people do .. but who wants poisen on their buds? They sell them at home depot for about 6 bucks. So only in veg.. then once their clean and have no pest I treat with neem to prevent.. then add them to the garden. I do this even if the clone APPEARS clean. Just a good precaution. I also put one in my veg room for one day every 2 weeks just incase some rouge bugs make it in .. BUT i would never use them in flower. Only organic sprays and beneficial bugs during flower imo!

tbh it sounds like you should be fine but I would still isolate it for a good bit not get anywhere near my growroom . If you really want to keep the genetics just make a little cab or tent for it and it alone untill your absolutely sure its clean and pest free .. then use the cuttings in your hydro ... if you look with magnification and couldnt find anything - sounds like he may have already got em under control .. but be careful in case .....

all u need is some neem oil rub a small amount on your finger and gently rub on the bottom of the leaves make sure u get the bottom of the plant thats where they thrive. Mix a teaspoon in ur spray bottle an use every other week to kill egg do this and you will never have mites and is healthy no chemicals

Thanks for all the good info...but now I found something else. While I had my scope out I was looking at my other plants I found some little , kinda fast moving green worms. I can see them without the scope, but they are real small.These are on my mother plants, not in my sealed off room with ladybugs. So are these a pest or what?...this shit sucks, I guess I'm heading to the grow shop today afterall.They are all over the bottom of the leaves...now I gatta go check the flower room, this shit sucks....anyone know what the little green worms are??

If ur mite prob is limited to the clone. Ur lucky. U can take an alcohol pad and wipe it down. Every square milimeter. Upper and lower leaf surfaces. Will not burn leaf tissue. Guaranteed to work. Eggs are laid on leaf surface, not soil.
For future reference, not all miticides work on all mites and their eggs. Floromite and Forbid (a miticide and an ovacide) will knock out mites, eggs, adults, crawlers. But you got to use a mix of both. This is only for last chance desperate measures. Use only in veg state. Expensive materials though.

okay...those are not worms, they can jump or fly...hard to tell cuz they are so small and fast. But they are doing damage

Are you sur they're not fungus gnats?

Mites are very opportunistic travlers. If you have worn the same clothing exposed at your friends infected garden into yours I would be on the lookout for mites there also.

Your little green critters could possibly be Thrips. Most of the treatments for Mites will work on Thrips also. Although some Thrips larve do feed on Mite eggs......

After you give them fuckers a COLD shower, take the plant ( if not too large ) and fill the tub up with cold fridgid water. Now hold your pot with both hands and try to flip it upside down CAREFULLY , then submerge all leaf and stem matter up to the soil line, then shake the plant under the water a few times with the vigourousness. It will stun the fuckers and the shaking will make them fall into the homemade Bering Sea that you have made outta your tub. You will gain satisfaction from knowing they met the fate of a cold agonizing death. After all that ruckus, take em out, allow them to dry , then hit them with some azamax. After a few days, turn around and hit the bitches again with some sns-217 ........ then follow up with azamax a week later and you should be gold.... If your plants are too huge, may god be with you. EDIT; everything explained in this post is with the thought of the babies still being in veg, because once flower comes you better have that shit under control. no one likes to spray them buds, sick!
