Is it a total 18K btu and I guess that brings up my next question, why a mini-split to cool one room? In my experience I would say yes, but I may be close. I have a 18k mini(9k each) and the one side runs with 2 vented 1K's and a gas fire co2 gen and seems to keep up fine. 4 bulbs un vented might make it work for it. Ps my room is 10.5x11.5x6.5

18K is marginal at best unless you live somewhere very cool or aircool your lights you are going to need 24k to be safe, trust me on this.I say DEFINITELY go mini split and 24k really does not use noticeable amount more power than 18k,both run off a 20amp max breaker at 240volts.Also try to get the highest seer possible and stick with mitsubishi mr slim or a fujitsu halcyon unit, buy cheap and buy often LOL.

thanks for the info i use 50lb co2 tanks so i dont have heat from the generator but ill just get a 24000 BTU... im actually going to get two of them tho and cool both my flower rooms but both are identical basically so i just stated one room, but also reason for the mini split so that my room isnt running 90 plus degrees in the summer time and come winter it can still be used to control the environment.. mini split wont waste ne co2.. there isn't any in/ out air its just recycled and its just makes most sense to me its very easy to make ur environment perfect 365 days a year with a mini split

I am sure you are aware of this already, but it would be so much cheaper on the power bill to run a Big fan though Aircooled hoods. and have a small window A/C that could keep it cool in there. just my $0.02

I am thinking about framing in (2) 10x10 bud rooms w/4k watts in each. I use raptor air-cooled hoods that have 8" ducting. Will a 24,000 btu mini split dual zone cover the two rooms. They are in a basement. I have been shooting for the 18,000 but that doesn't seem large enough for both rooms.

Well I have a 10" Vortex that will be cooling the lights. I will even run them in 2 rows and get another 10" Vortex. I am running 5k watts with no AC right now. The OP isn't or wasn't cooling his lights. Huge difference. (But obviously I am worried about it or I wouldn't be asking. lol)

honestly im drawing LESS amps now that i have my split a/c set up than i was running aircooled lights mini splits are extremely efficient... also i run a sealed room so the window a/c would screw that up and waste my co2...also the glass on the hoods knocks down 15% of the lumens(this is when its completely clean..think about how much lumens knocks down when theres dust build up on the lens)... and lastly when its hot as fuck outside its NOT hot as fuck in my grow room and now that i have it set up this way i wish i would of done it a long time ago...so those are my reasons for going this route

What system(s) did you end up choosing and did u have the help of an hvac installer? thanks

I am thinking about framing in 2 - 10x10 rooms, w/ 4k in each room. I am thinking a dual zone system and it splits between the 2 rooms. I already own 5 Raptors, so I am going to use them. I will have them set up so the air blows right through them and through the rooms, so I can still run co2 and I should have less cool with the lights being cooled. Money is a factor at the moment, so I can't just go overkill and then not worry about it. Buying 4 Adjust-a-wings for the other room is an option, but again, I am limited somewhat on the ac I purchase and I do not want to redo this several times.

I'd say no, that is not going to cool a total of 8,000 watts IMO..

Sketchy, what size you thinking?

i bought 2 24000BTU mini split (heat and A/c) the brand is seneville (there a brand new brand this year made by toshiba or shinco).. and yes i did have a hvac guy help me but just to vacuum out the lines before the freon shit got released into the system... you can burn up the outdoor compressor if you dont vacuum the lines out..

kindfarms. I am not trying to be redonedent but I am framing in some rooms today and setting up very similar set-up. I cannot wrap my head around not air cooling my lights. Later on today I will try to post sketch of what I am trying to do. I have an addition on this house so I do not have the luxury of having a straight run for my ducting either. That is proving to be quite the pain in my ass. I haven't even picked out a mini-split yet. I have the lighting for the one room, I am really tempted to buy Adjust-a-wings when I complete the other room.
and do your method but with the different reflectors. If I had the cash I would buy a big water chiller and set up the ebb n gro bucket system and chill the res and get 4-8" ice boxes for the lights. Damn. That is exactly how I should do both rooms. Thanks guys.

I was kinda wondering about the non air cooled lights, i will lose 15% of light because of the glass if it saves me 50% on my power bill. I have not had my A/c on yet this year in the flower room . but I have a 800 cfm fan sucking all the hot air from my lights. acouple nights ago my Heater came on when my lights were on because the temp got to low.

my veg room has a non air cooled light and that thing heats the room up fast and i have troble keeping it cool.

This winter i am taking all the glass of my reflectors and heating the house,

The difference can be rather extreme. Room A) four 1000w air cooled over 96 plants was averaging .62 gpw for a total of 2480 grams. Room B) 7x 600w adjust a wings over 96 plants, same exact pheno as room A) was averaging .83 gpw for a total of 3486 grams for an extra 200 watts you can be getting an extra 1000g's . I will always air cool the room not the lights.
