A/C cooling question

I am in the process of setting up my first grow room. Size is approx 12x20. I will be doing a 40 plant SCROG grow in dirt.
I am planning on using 10 x 600w cool tube hps lights. What will I need to keep the room temps at 75-80 deg?
I was thinking a 24,000 btu ductless mini split a/c would be enough. Any comments? Thanks

I know not much about them but do know that when I go look at them they always have the recomended square footage on the box.

A 14000 btu portable may be able to handle the load, so going with a mini split will be much better. I'm not sure you need the 24000 btu mini split, but if it's in your budget go for it. They are way more efficient.

If the 14,000 btu portable would do the job it would be better for me. (cost, installation, power etc..)

the 14k portable would suck. it would suck your electricty and your enviroment. there is absolutely no comparison between the two. the 24k mini would be perfect and you wont have to kick yourself in the ass for wasting the money on a portable.

i think 14,000btu might not be enough. as a portable i'm almost positive it won't. sencha may have more experience with cooltubes cause i don't. i just really don't think that would be even close. especially considering the inefficiency of portable a/c units. i would stick with the 2 ton mini split. you could probably get away with a 18,000btu minisplit. ten 600w lights is gonna create a ton of heat. are your ballasts in the room too? are you making a 4' wide scrog screen around 3 of the walls in the room? then scrogging 4 plants per 4x4 section?

I used a 12k BTU portable 1 hose unit for a 3200 watt grow room in a 8x8 room and it dropped the temps 2 degrees. hardly worth it. plus the exhaust hose needs to be insulated, it generates a ton of heat. its a poor choice for any grow room with more than 1ooo watts of lighting imo. a large veg room I think it could work in there if you're using a bunch of T5.

Sencha wouldn't run cooltubes, lol. Sealed hoods. If you pre cool the room before lights on, the 14000 btu could be enough. Like I said, the mini split will be much better.

I don't have any experience with portables, just research. I ordered an 8000btu portable for my 10x9 bloom room with 4-600s. I'm still waiting for it's arrival.

The 24000 btu split is the best option for your grow. I have one now and only wished I would have got it sooner. I cool mine with 4 - 1k and I do natural gas co2. The room is money now. I was using a portable 12000 btu unit before and of course air- cooled and it worked but it will suck out co2 and you will have heat issues with 10 lights I promise. I am about to test mine out in about a month or 2 and go with out the light lenses and see if my unit can handle it, I think it will but we will see. Good luck!

Whats a mini split? Im setting up a new room right now and need more a/c myself. Does anyone know if a window unit would exhaust the odor outside or is it just in the condensation. I have a "chill box" that pulls cold air from there into the flower room and the veg. Sort of like central cooling... Anyway, put the window unit in the chill box or inside the room itself????
