Just wondering how many plants I should plan on growing with a 400w hps in a 6 foot wide, 2 foot deep, and 7 foot hight closet. The grow will be in soil. Still trying to make up my mind as to what fem strain Im gonna go with. Want something yields well and is easy to grow. Thanks again guys.

Depends on what strain and how big they will get. What are you growing and what size pot are you going to end up using.

Im leaning towards g13 northern lights/skunk feminized. Or possible buddha white dwarf autoflower. Cant make up my mind man. :wall:

If you go with the Autoflower you can get maybe twelve in there if ya go with nl/skunk 2 or 3

Thanks. Im leaning toward the autoflower bc it seems easier for a first grow. I was originally going to go fancy and multiple lights and a grow tent for a SOG grow, but I think I should start small at first to kind of test the waters. I know the autoflowers produce smaller yields, but do you think I would get a better yield from 12 autoflowers or 3 nl/skunk?

2-3 max probably

Man don't listen to all that stuff about 2 or 3 plants. You can do WAY more than that; n I'm proof. I just finished a 600w grow in a 2x4x5' tent, with 7 plants of distinguished pedigree. I had literally 0 real problems during the grow, and everything came out beautiful. No autoflowering here. In your space I'd say you should do a 10 plant grow no matter what type of strain it is. I grew out Northern Soul, Blue Cheese, Twilight, n Whiteberry, and I ended up with around 2oz per plant give or take. 2 are still flowering cuz I started them late(Seedsman White Widows). But 400w is perfect to use in an enclosed space like that. You might even end up with a better yield than I had man.

When your growing in an enclosed space, light penetration is more important than the actual wattage of the lighting. I actually wish I'd used a 400 instead because at times the light was too intense for some of my taller tops. A 400w light in an enclosed space like yours would be perfect. You'll probably get about a foot of penetration through your canopy one the plants are fully mature, n then all you would have to do is harvest the top foot of your girls when they're ready, n then leave the botto
Half for 2 more weeks n harvest again. Well worth the effort, and you'll increase your yield exponentially by doing this aswell.

Don't let people scare you into playing it safe whenyou could have done so much more with what you got. 8-10 plants would be a great grow. Use 3 gallon grow bags and top your plants. They'll thank you for it bro :D

Hope that REALLY helped man. N if u ever need any other help, feel free to message me dude. I'll give you whatever advice I can from my own experiences.

N if u wanna find somethin easy to grow that's a good yielder, go with seedsman seeds NORTHERN sOUL. Not only is it a good yielder, but it's also some of the dankest weed I've had the pleasure of smoking. She is covered with trichomes by week 5 of flower, n it only gets better from there. A very forgiving plant, can take ALOT of nutrients without burning, n seriously worth every single day of the 9 weeks she took to finish. Check out my journal for pics of her. Completely worth doing. If your lookin for 1 strain to grow, IMHO that's the one. N you'll easily be able to fit 8 fully maturing N.Souls in your tent with minimal crowding. Hope that helped :D

i have about the same amount of space in my flower closet. i also set up a very small fluorescent Veg room in another closet(3'x3'x5'). so every 4 weeks two seeds get planted and get grown out. at the most i have about 4 girls under my 400w HPS when crops overlap in the flower room. but i also FIM them, so they are much bushier for better yields. so my grow style doesn't allow for much more plants beyond 4. but you can do more, just make sure you rotate them everyday so they can all get equal love under the light.

with my space constraints this system helps me have continuous crop every month, but not have to sacrifice great light on all the ladies.

now, i agree 100% with that post. Rotating your plants when growing in an enclosed space is pretty important. its because your gonna end up with shadows in the corners of the grow, so rotating your plants once a week, or once every couple days will benefit your yield in a HUGE way. But i topped instead of fimmed my ladies, which really does the same thing almost, but my own personal preference is topping, only because i just enjoy clipping the hell out of my girls at the beginning, lol. keeps um nice n squat (i managed to keep my girls just at around 4' tall after the big stretch), n you wont end up with tops fighting for light, because theyll all be around the same height. I actually had a problem with one of my Blue Cheese plants. Two of her branches actually grew out to be within 3 inches of the light, and i almost burned the hell out of them, lol. I had to end up supercroppinng the top 12" of the two branches just to keep them farther away, but it benefited me in the end, because they grew out to be the size of my arm, lol.

I've got 8 plants under 400W HPS in a 2X4 space; they just went on 12/12 yesterday. It's getting pretty tight in there right now, but I'm factoring in a 50% loss to male-ness. If I don't lose them, it's going to be a crunch. I have the liberty of expanding my space, but not my light supply at the moment.

A lot of folks start flowering at 3 weeks. If you're space-limited, I can now see why this is -- the difference in height, branching, density etc between 3-4 weeks is HUGE. My plants have shot up and out over the last week by 6-10 inches in both dimensions.

did you top your plants or just leave them to their single cola dominance? N i know what you mean about it getting crowded. Thats when you need to either bust out the shears and thin out the canopy a little bit, or manipulate the branches so all the budsites are exposed. Dont get me wrong, your big fan leaves are sugar factories, and vital to the growth of your buds, but if its a toss up between keeping certain leaves, and making sure that light gets to every single budsite on the canopy, then trim the leaves that are blocking the buds. The buds themselves will develop leaves of their own eventually anyway, so your merely giving them room to breathe. I had to thin out my canopy probably once every 2 weeks, as the buds got bigger, there were more fan leaves that got in the way. I tried to move them out of the way at first, but the next day they would be right back in the way. So pruning for me ended up being the only option in the long run. N i dont know if it deminished my yield or not, but the yield i came off with was something to be proud of (for me n the experience that i have).ill end up with close to an lb after all is said n done from 7 plants, so even if it did deminish my yield, it wasnt significant enough for me to say ill never repeat the process, lol. Next time crowding is a problem, i wont even hesitate to prune. Just do it as sparingly as possible, n your ladies will forgive you for it ;)

So with 10 plants of Northern Soul in the space that I have, what kind of yield should I expect if things go as planned?

yep 400 wat mh and then will switch over to hps soon. I would get some reflective material because that will bounce more light off the walls on to the lower limbs of your plants as they grow. No more then 5 i would say, but you shouldn't need anymore then that

I'm just getting a clue on some of these manipulation techniques. I think I'm a little late for topping, but what I am going to do is get rid of everything on the lowest 4-6" of the plant to maximize that top cola, and do some stress training to bring the higher side branches closer to the height of the tops. So, if all goes well, I hope to have one nice top cola and 2-3 well-developed extras on the sides.

My guesstimate would probably range from 15-20 oz depending on how well they respond to you and your own personal style of growing, the nutrients u use, and you gotta factor in one or two skimpy plants, or in this case since they're fem seeds, I'd take into account the likelyhood that one might go hermie. Allowing for a mistake or two, between 15-20 oz is a very realistic goal.
