Any time you are buying a bucket that is not black, put it up against a very strong light, like your grow light. It will be incredibly clear if you should use it or not. This will avoid any sort of root rot, algae, or chlorophyl growing in your roots.

With your bubbleponic which you had mentioned is a closed system (change water) ive been tossing the idea of doing a undercurrent with adding air stones with the added O2 and the constant current you think id be a good idea as well as cutting down on possible root rot and algae due to current i helped with this one setup that we used a main res that had just a small pump to fill a secondary bucket that e then pushed the water with this http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3579+3580+26262&pcatid=26262 it took some time to get it timed properly but once we did we used the biomedia in the trays that once you added your tea a few times the benifical bacteria started to naturally produce through the filter media. im just tossing around ideas and trying to think outside of the box lemme know any tips or critisim that you have

Uniseals suck ass. I ran them my first run in my diy undercurrent. Seem to have all leaks stoped and out of no where I would get a new leak ..This is what I use now . Check out Agri Supply online. Think they were around 5 bucks apiece. Not much more then uniseals. But leaks will no longer be an issue

good info here, I'm trying to find square buckets and square baskets and can't seem to locate an online source? Anyone know where I can get them? What is absolute best way to plug pvc into buckets? what kind of glue? silicon? fittings? Thanks!

Most people use uniseals and 2" pvc, but they are a pain in the ass.

nice, i found em, gonna work these fittings and the 2 inch size into my design, the totes are pretty cost effective and I will probably go that route. Do you just insert the 2 inch pvc into the fitting without any glue or anything? Also what kind of pump are you using for your flow?

You will need to glue it up. The good thing with those fittings is you can take the whole system apart. To clean mine I take it apart . Take it all outside and pressure wash it . Then screw it all back togeather. I put a valve and a union before my pump and a union after my pump . The pump I run is 950 gph.
How many sites are you planning on running? You gonna run two rows?

Nice this is all coming together now. probaby do 8 sites, 2 per tub with a tub under each light, 4 lights, I'm going to do my best to allow for a middle aisle type area but I imagine it will be alot of crawling around to spray and do tie ups, especially once I add some scrog screens into the mix, the space is a 10x10 room, I may do one vertical scrog in a corner as an experiment but for now just trying to figure out a way to design a system. It's going to be so nice having a control room with water in/out, ph doser, and chiller. No more carrying buckets, checking ph manually, ice bottles, etc....I'll probably do the same set up you have and add in a drip line for each site. I've found the drip is probably what my plants like the most.

Good luck with it all. I'm still dealing with ice bottles myself. Its not too bad tho . Ive got my room insulated pretty well so its not to hard to controll temps. Our space is about the same size. My scrog screen is about 6'x9' . Gets a little tight but I've got room to walk around it.
You will like those fittings . The white threaded coupling is what you glue your pipe on to and then just screw it into your fitting .

First of all sorry for hijacking this thread. If you glue the pvc to the white coupling part and have a tub on each end of the pvc screwed in wouldn't it be hard to unscrew the pipe from the tubs? because it would be connected to a tub on each end and you'd have to hold the tub up and spin the tub or something to unscrew it? I'm probably just over complicating this, anyhow this is all great info, I'll get a thread started with my build once it starts coming together, one last question, do you know what size hole you drilled on the tubs for those fittings to fit in?

Yea don't mean to hi jack the thread... you can screw the pipe in the fittings ( while they are on the totes) once they are screwed in you simply tighten lock nut down on fitting. The fitting will turn untill you tighten the nut . I would use teflon tape on the threads going into the fitting . That way you pretty much just have to hand tighten your pipe. Need a 3" hole saw to make your holes.

roger that, i think i've got a great handle now on how to plumb my system and have a separate control room. I'm in the process now of figuring out my hvac

gorgeous set up. Wish I had that much room! Run self contained buckets now used the HydroFarm system years ago but found the excess spray/salts a real drag--changing out the buckets is pretty easy and I do it weekly. The yields can be really good -- certainly depending on your genetics.

I ordered some of these, are you saying the fitting will spin even though it's plumbed into the tote? I'm sure I'll know what you're saying exactly when I have the fitting in hand, anyhow this system is gonna be so awesome

Yes it will spin untill you tighten the nut down on the outside of your totes. You will understand it when you get your fitting . Glad you went that route . I done a lot of reading on these systems and I've not seen any better seals then these .
